Amazfit Pace review, GPS on the wrist with many good ideas to develop

Home Reviews ,,,, SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES, The arrival of summer will certainly push users to go out on the streets and do a lot of healthy physical movement. It is the period of smartwatches for sportsmen and a healthy touch could come from Amazfit Pace, a smart watch dedicated to fitness, beautiful to look at and apparently with a lot of potential that we have put to the test in recent days.

Aesthetics

Amazfit Pace is beautiful to see and handle. Classic style, with a circular dial, it looks a bit like the Moto 360 series, complete with a small black band on the display, most likely useful for hiding various circuits and sensors. A ceramic case makes the watch particularly resistant, but also minimal and elegant. The profile is clean and linear and the single small button is almost hidden on the back, invisible at first sight. On the back we find the sensor to detect the heartbeat, also in continuous mode as we will see shortly, in addition to the circuits for charging. The silicone strap is of excellent quality, absolutely comfortable to wear, even for the whole day, and is available in different colors as well as being easily replaceable. But Amazfit Pace is compatible with all 22 mm straps. In short, when it comes to materials and aesthetics, this smatwatch, particularly inexpensive (especially in the Chinese version), has nothing to envy to any other device, and can easily overshadow even higher-end watches.

The hardware is also satisfactory. The 1.34-inch display has a resolution of 320 × 300 pixels and uses transnfective, therefore reflective, LCD technology. It weighs 54.5 grams, therefore very light, despite its generous dimensions. Inside a 1.2 GHz processor, 4GB of integrated memory to store music, 512 MB of RAM, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, WiFi module, GPS + GLONASS, IP67 certification and a use of at least 5 days, if intense, which can reach 11 days with mild use.

As for the display, at first glance it displaces. Indeed, it may even disappoint. The first thing the user will try to do will be to increase the brightness, to discover a few seconds later how it is not possible to do so and yet after a few hours of use, it turns out that this is one of the trump cards of the watch.

The backlight is dim and is designed to make the dial visible in dark environments, while it literally “lights up” by itself, when illuminated directly, or indirectly, by sunlight thanks to a reflective back. This means that in the open air, while jogging, you will have a particularly legible watch on your wrist, and all while consuming very little battery.

The device is accurate in calculating steps, calories burned and heart rate. When you start an activity, the GPS takes a few seconds too long to activate, but once you start it tracks all the data precisely. Amazfit is able to analyze runs, walks, workouts on an exercise bike or treadmill, as well as bike or elliptical rides. During the activities, the large display shows the main data to the user, such as running time, calories burned, distance traveled and heart rate in real time. In short, Amazfit really leaves nothing to chance. It would seem, until now, the perfect fitness smartwatch but …

Application

But there are also some weaknesses that essentially relate to the software. The application for iOS and Android is beautiful to look at, with a refined and modern UI, but it offers very little data and does not do what one would expect. Basically it only serves for the first pairing, for data synchronization, to change watch faces and to decide which notifications to receive on the wrist. It is not possible to see the activities recorded by the watch from the app. This basically means that steps, calories burned and so on can only be read on the clock face. There is no diary of previous days, there is no diary for sleep; in short, it does nothing of what those who use a smartwatch for physical activity expect.

It is true that with the Chinese version, by making some changes it is possible to synchronize with the Mi Fit app, but by default, also according to the manufacturer's FAQ, the small display of the clock remains the main source where to read the tracked data. It is possible to synchronize with the Strava app, but overall there is a serious lack of an official app worthy of the name: if you then consider that, needless to say, the Amazfit app on iOS does not communicate with Health, we are really under the minimum in terms of software.

On Android Amazift Pace offers the possibility of receiving notifications on the wrist for a greater number of applications than iOS, which is more limited. In any case, even on Android when you receive notifications on messaging apps you will not be able to respond in any way. Also, after receiving multiple messages in sequence from the same person, the watch display will only show “2 incoming messages”, without having to read the message text. We do not feel, however, to criticize these choices, because Amazfit is a smartwatch dedicated to fitness, and it is normal that it is lacking from this point of view.

Operating system

Other difficulties are then found in the AmazFit OS, which does not seem to be among the most intuitive. The display is always-on, and this allows basic information to always be visible. If you want to interact with the clock, however, you will need to “wake it up”, by double-tapping, or with the only button present. This means that to measure the heartbeat, see the diary steps, or consult all the functions of the watch, it will take a lot of touches on the screen, navigating a UI that is not too immediate. Usually, on Android Wear or Apple Watch, just turn your wrist to be ready to interact with the device, while on AmazFit you need to activate the display to make it sensitive to touches.

Conclusions

Amazfit, software gaps aside that for a certain number of people could be relative, is appreciated in everyday use. It is particularly elegant and can be worn on the wrist for at least a week, without running the risk of running out of battery. When you use it to track a certain physical activity, it is unquestionably accurate, as well as accurate in counting your daily steps. It should also be emphasized that pairing and synchronization with the smartwatch always happens quickly, without ever missing a beat.

For just over 100 euros it is therefore a really interesting purchase. Not only because it is beautiful, but also because it actually works, and when required it tracks its activities to perfection. The hope is that the development team will make the OS more immediate and, above all, that the application will be improved, integrating the functions that are currently missing since Amazfit Pace really has potential, and with the necessary precautions it can make the big ones tremble. in the fitness sector.

It usually costs $ 159, but on TomTop, until May 8, you can buy it for € 117.49, using the AJHUAMI8 coupon, directly at this address.
