Lixada Book Lamp, the LED lamp that looks like a book

Home Reviews ,,,,, A lamp that, when turned off, does not look like a lamp. It is Lixada Book Lamp, a curious product that our editorial team has tried in recent days and that struck us for its particular shape, similar to that of a book.

How is it made

In fact, it takes its cue from the latter for the opening and the internal structure that turns out to be made of Tyvek , a synthetic material that looks like paper to the touch: in reality it is it is a non-woven fabric that is very difficult to tear and which, in this specific case, due to its particular assembly, is reminiscent of the pages of a book. The pleasure in using this lamp is in fact in opening it just like opening a book to read and then seeing the pages light up ( there is no On / Off button but rather a system that activates the light when the lamp is opened and turns it off when the lamp is closed): at that point it is positioned on the bed, on the bedside table, on a table or desk and the “wow” effect is guaranteed. You just have to be careful in handling the lamp when open: the pages, in fact, although thicker than a common sheet of paper, can be deformed or folded easily.

The cover is instead made of plywood , raw in color while the external surface is well worked, smooth and on which a light layer of flatting or of any other protective paint since, trying to pour a little water on it, it is not absorbed at all but, on the contrary, it slips away as soon as the lamp is tilted to one side. Very particular is the carving system near the back of the “book”, which ensures high flexibility of the cover, thus made in a single piece of wood.

This lamp can be positioned either as an open book, i.e. with the cover completely extended on the support surface, or the two parts can be joined which will then remain attached to each other by means of a magnet incorporated inside the edge of the lamp. In this way you will have a cylindrical lamp that will offer three hundred and sixty degrees of illumination, ideal for positioning it for example in the center of a room. You can also take advantage of the vertical support with the lamp ajar to direct the light beam towards a specific corner of the room.

Field test

We tried to peek between the pages by lifting them at the base: the available opening is minimal and there is a risk of irreversibly ruining the product, so we do not recommend replicating the test that still allowed us to reveal part of its interior, of which you will find an example in our photographs. The construction looks very “amateur”, with two strips of LED lights (5 per side) glued to both internal sides of the cover and connected to each other through some cables: these then connect to a 2,500 mAh battery , also fixed to the inside of the lamp and rechargeable through a microUSB socket that protrudes from one edge of the lamp.

During our tests we deliberately left the lamp open (and therefore switched on) for more than a day, necessary to completely discharge the battery and to allow the product to lose much of the strong smell of wood and glue that is perceived when unpacking. The battery recharges completely in about four hours while the consumption is very low and for just over 12 hours the lighting offered is at maximum power: only after half a day the light intensity gradually begins to fade until it almost disappears after 24 hours. It then takes a few more hours to completely discharge the battery, which basically means that, with an average use of two hours a day, the lamp lasts “weeks”: all we have to do is remember to recharge it once a week to have the 'lighting always at maximum power.

Conclusions

We are not dealing with a product of high build quality, however Lixada Book Lamp we particularly liked for its use. On the bedside table it takes up very little space when closed, especially if it is positioned vertically (perhaps between two or three books), moreover the materials are largely ecological and rather light. It is also very interesting from the point of view of its use when traveling: it is not necessary to have a socket at hand and the battery ensures days and days of autonomy.

Retail price

Lixada Book Lamp is on sale on Amazon for 29.99 euros and is available in three different models that differ in the color of the light (yellow, white and red).
