The world of LED table lamps now has so many exponents that it often becomes difficult to choose the one that suits your needs. In a sea magnum of offers TaoTronics makes an original choice, which could be rewarded by most: it is powered by a common MicroUSB, then via cable connected to the PC / Notebook or even with an external power bank.

Really minimal in appearance, the TaoTronics lamp offers a rather traditional design for the genre, foldable and able to take up very little space on any desk. It is suitable for small or medium-sized environments, without obstructing the view. In addition, folded in on itself, it becomes practically invisible. Completely made of matte black plastic, the lamp does not return the same feeling as more expensive pieces made of aluminum. The base on which it rests, also in plastic, does not offer a particularly complex control panel, and rather offers a single button through which to turn on / off or adjust the intensity of the light beam.

In short, it is a lamp really simple and basic, which does not offer different shades of light, or timers for automatic shutdown or other advanced features typical of other more expensive models. The light beam is only with white temperature, and can only be adjusted in intensity, with a valid range, even if at most it is not as strong as on much more expensive models. The light is not particularly blinding, but it illuminates a medium / small room without any problem, with a uniform and constant beam that does not tire the eyes and does not dazzle. When switched on, the lamp does not present any annoying flicker, so it can be used for several hours without annoying or weighing down the eyes.

Beyond the ease of use, which is not suitable for those looking for advanced options, such as the ability to set different light modes, the TaoTronics lamp under test shows off its ” secret weapon ”in the power supply system, which does not require a proprietary power supply, but is based on the classic MicroUSB connector. This means that the lamp does not necessarily need a power outlet, because it can be powered by a PC, Notebook or even via an external portable battery. During our tests we also used a bluetooth speaker with power bank function; the result was largely positive.

Conclusions

The MicroUSB power supply, in addition to the super cheap price, makes the TaoTronics lamp under test an excellent ally in everyday life. The light works well, the light beam is restful and does not create annoying reflections when working on the PC. Certainly, however, it cannot be suitable for those who need to change the tone of the light, passing from cold to warm, and vice versa. The device under test, in fact, has only cold white light. Inside it does not have any power accumulator, which is why, for correct operation, it must constantly be connected to a power source, whether it be wall or portable.
