Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,, SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES, Today's panorama of Android smartphones has therefore imposed on users the 5.5 inches diagonal, putting more and more generously sized phablets in the hands of everyone, making them forget the pleasure of using a much more compact and lightweight smartphone. TP-Link's Neffos X1 takes care of it, with its 5-inch display, even if it is not a top of the range, to bring the hands back in time.
The Neffos X1 actually appears at first glance as an absolutely compact terminal, rare nowadays, and with a truly featherweight. It measures just 142 x 71 x 7.95 mm, for 135 grams. These are numbers that unfortunately are literally disappearing from the current landscape of Android smartphones. It holds well in the hand and the construction is of excellent workmanship. Apparently it seems to be in front of a top of the range, even if this is not the case. It is betrayed, for example, in the three soft touch front keys, off the screen, and not backlit. This, we anticipate immediately, is one of the most obvious cons. It is difficult to identify them even during the day, while they are totally invisible during the night. It is really a shame, because it would have taken very little to make the terminal stand out further. In part, TP-Link forgives the lack by including in the sales bundle the earphones, well made and with an appreciable audio quality.
The phone is very well built, free of creaking, has, in addition to the volume rocker and the power button on the right side, also a mechanical button on the left as a silencer. This is a small button, similar to the one used by Apple for the Mute function. It may seem like a small detail, but it is not, and in everyday use, especially in the workplace, it is really useful. Even putting your hands in your pockets you can turn off the sounds, without having to turn on the display and press a sequence of icons on the screen.
On the back, however, the 13 MP camera, with Dual LED, and the touch ID. About the latter, it is responsive and precise, even if it does not compete for example with those installed on many Huawei, which are nothing short of lightning-fast. On the lower part, however, the usual microUSB port. Overall, the design of the terminal is to be promoted even if it cannot be given praise. On the one hand it is a pleasure to handle such a light phone, to be used with one hand, but on the other hand the non-backlit front keys are a fall from an ergonomic point of view and give the idea of having wanted to proceed with the savings.
We have been squeezing Neffos intensely for a few weeks and have come to the conclusion that this cell phone can play a leading role. It is not a forklift at all and is absolutely efficient in all situations. The spec sheet highlights a MediaTek Helio P10 octa core CPU, four clocked at 1.8 GHz and four at 1.0 GHz, supported by 2 GB of RAM. Numbers aside, if Neffos X1 is not an absolute lightning bolt, it does not disappoint those looking for a fast device for using the most common applications: from web browsing, to phone calls, from messaging to social networks and games.
The display, as mentioned, boasts a 5-inch diagonal, with HD resolution. It is certainly a good unit, with very vivid colors, well defined, even if it is not Full HD, and which reads well in any light condition. If you can ignore the numbers, which speak of 720p, you will certainly have a nice visual feeling.
Multimedia
Even the rear camera manages to give satisfaction in the visual department. It features a 13 MP Sony IMX258 sensor. The photos are good for the price range of the terminal, they manage to capture many details and are sharp in many situations. The colors remain natural and faithful to reality, and overall the result is appreciable. From this point of view, Neffos X1 does much better than many other competitors in the same price range. The rear camera also gives satisfactory results, also thanks to the beauty modes, which retouch the subject's face and therefore are suitable for selfies.
A separate discussion for videos, where it is always difficult to find an Android terminal with a competitive price that is excellent in this area. Neffos X1, what 199 euros, is no exception: the movies are just enough, without optical stabilization and with a zoom that does not work optimally. Below is a gallery taken during the test, and published without any retouching photos.
Neffos UI
The NFUI deserves a separate discussion, the interface chosen by Neffos to customize Android Marshmallow. It is nothing revolutionary, but overall it deserves applause. Particular attention has been paid to the graphics, with small customizations that make it pleasant to use. For example, the notification bar, which at a quick glance seems to recall Nougat. At the forefront the most used quick toggles, while a second slide calls up notifications and other toggles. It is possible to customize the themes, even if they are very few, but all of fine workmanship. The team has created pleasant icon packs, well finished and cared for in all details. The menus are colorful, but minimal and not too intrusive. In short, NFUI brings a practically stock experience, but with appreciable finishes.
The 2250 mAh battery deserves a speech in itself. on paper very few for a terminal of 2017, which in everyday use could give problems to those who use the mobile phone for a long time. During the first few days of testing we noticed a visible drop in the battery, undoubtedly due to the first tests with heavy use. Subsequently, however, with normal use, we managed to arrive in the evening without any problems, continuing to take advantage of Whatsapp push mail and messaging.
The telephone department is good; we encountered no line problems, with a capsule audio always clear and crystalline, able to make conversations pleasant. The bluetooth volume is not very high, but in any case average and without particular problems. Beautiful is the telephone dialer, customized by NFUI, which returns a minimal and clear sensation, always based almost entirely on the stock Android experience.
Conclusions
Neffos X1 by TP-Link is the result of a brand that will not be known in the smart world, but we were pleasantly impressed by this medium range, which can be used well and is reliable in everyday life. Pleasant to be able to rediscover the 5 inches in a featherweight terminal in a thoughtfully designed phone, and the purchase could be a really smart choice. Too bad for the non-backlit keys.
It is available on Amazon in denominations of 16 and 32 GB of integrated memory, at the price of 199.90 and 219.00 euros.
