Who, in the car, prefers to attach the smartphone to the ventilation vent rather than to the windshield or dashboard should consider purchasing Mpow Grip Magic Vent, among the less invasive supports thanks to the magnetic coupling system that wins the comparison with others of the same type for the sturdy clamp that sticks to the ventilation grid.
Our editorial staff tried it for a few days on three different cars, evaluating the effective effectiveness of the system. The advantage, we said, is in the vice with which the support is hooked to the nozzle. Normally these accessories use a clip system characterized by four rods with cross opening, rather stable especially for the models that are accompanied by an internal rubber coating that improves the adherence.
The clip that we find in the support of Mpow instead uses two rubber inserts about two millimeters thick, which are tightened like a pliers through a small lever . This system is both more practical and intuitive to use, and more robust: even giving the support a few taps here and there, it does not move in the slightest, ensuring a more than solid grip. It is possible to block practically any ventilation grille, from the thinnest to the thickest, as long as the rod to which the support is fixed does not exceed 3 millimeters in thickness.
Thanks to the ball head it is possible firmly fix the support both to the vertical grids and to the horizontal or diagonal grids, thus ensuring maximum compatibility with practically any car vent. Moreover, due to its mobility, it allows you to slightly tilt the magnetic plate in all directions for a maximum of 45 degrees, thus allowing you to orient the smartphone towards your position for better visibility of the display. Furthermore, the ball head does not use any screws – usually used by other manufacturers – to be locked or loosened. This is an advantage both from the point of view of usability as it is more intuitive to direct the plate, and as regards durability over time, avoiding carelessly forcing the plate without loosening the screw and consequently compromising its resistance. To tilt it, we said, it is enough to force in one direction: it is very hard to manage, precisely because after having found the optimal configuration, it will have to remain in position while also supporting the smartphone.
The latter is magnetically attached to the plate. In fact, there are no pliers or other systems to lock the smartphone, which must necessarily be accompanied by one of the metal plates included in the package. There are two of different sizes: the largest (for phablet) measures 6.5 x 4.3 centimeters, while the other, much smaller (for smartphones), measures 3.2 x 2.7 centimeters. Both have, on one side, a 3M adhesive layer that allows them to be securely attached to a cover or directly to the smartphone shell. You can also decide not to use the adhesive by simply inserting the metal plate between the phone and the cover or, in the case of smartphones with a removable shell, directly inside the latter.
The magnet positioned inside the plate is really very powerful and the grip is skillfully improved by the surface that covers it, completely rubberized with a large central section with high grip. We did some tests and managed to block our iPhone 7 without difficulty but also the 5.5-inch Android phablet of a friend of ours: the manufacturer makes no mention of it, but in reality using the larger plate we were able to block on the nozzle of the also our iPad mini 3 car, although we did not dare to keep it locked for long distances but evaluating its capabilities only a few tens of kilometers.
The support is made entirely of high quality plastic , very sturdy and covered with layers of rubber in different points including the area which, even if minimally, comes into contact with the grid of the ventilation nozzle, all certainly to the advantage of greater stability of the support.
