Google Drive revolutionizes how links work: what changes for users?

A new security update is coming to Google Drive : this will affect the functioning of the links to the documents and consequently how the file sharing takes place, both for the “normal” profiles and those Workspaces .

Starting from 13 September , to access a shared file for the first time you will need to have a special URL , which contains a “resource key” and which will serve as an additional form of security. This particular URL must be generated by a person who has already viewed the file or obviously by the owner himself, using the current tools made available by Google Drive. Workspaces users will instead have more control and can change, through the console Google Admin , some options related to these new URLs.

But what specifically changes? In reality this update will be completely invisible to “normal” users , but Google has stated that the links currently created may no longer work starting from 13 September and therefore you could receive several requests for access to the files previously shared.
