Italy is running fast towards a future in which the broadband internet network will be part of everyday life for everyone, regardless of the geographical area of residence. In this context, the Italian government presented a new intervention plan .
The new initiative is called Italian strategy for ultra-broadband and was presented by the Minister for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition Vittorio Colao, together with the Minister of Economy and Finance Daniele Franco, the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia, the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza. In the foreground, the goal is to complete coverage with broadband network in all white areas of the national territory.
In addition, the initiative also includes the Italy 1 Giga plan, for which the Government has set itself the objective of provide all Italians with the possibility of accessing the ultra-broadband by 2026 . Again in this context, approximately 2 billion euros have been allocated to increase the development of 5G networks and infrastructures throughout the country.
Other targeted interventions are planned for schools and health care. The ultimate goal is to equip school buildings and sanitary buildings with ultra-broadband network, capable of reaching navigation speeds up to 1 Gbps .
Finally, the action plan presented by the Government for connectivity provides for funds allocated exclusively for the smaller islands . In particular, the islands of Capraia, Favignana, Lipari, Stromboli, Alicudi, Panarea, Filicudi, Salina, Lampedusa, Linosa, Pantelleria, Ustica, Ponza, Ventotene, Asinara, Tremiti Islands, Pelagie Islands, Sulcitanee Islands will be able to access specific funds for increase coverage in ultra-broadband on its territory.
