Google has announced that in the next few days it will update the graphics of the maps of its Google Maps service, adding useful details to understand the natural elements of each area. In the statement announcing and explaining the changes, Google spoke of “more colorful and accurate” maps and said they will be available on every territory, “from large cities to small rural areas”. As can be seen from some before-and-after images published by Google, the new maps – made with algorithms but always starting from satellite images – will make the topography of the observed terrain much clearer. In other words, it will be much easier to understand if there are woods, beaches, deserts, glades or glaciers in a natural area.
Call it our summer glow-up. ✨

As for the cities, Google explained that it has worked to make it easier to recognize pedestrian areas and crossings, so as to make the use of maps more useful even for those who want to move on foot. In this case, however, the changes will initially be visible only in some large cities, including London, New York and San Francisco, while it will take “months” before they arrive elsewhere.
