There are small tools that, when needed, really make a difference. We noticed this with the Alfawise LS-1 rangefinder being tested. We have never missed it, but after using it we really realize its usefulness.
It may have been a coincidence, but we tried it right at the moment of the house renovation, when taking the measures to change furniture, or to furnish, was a rather frequent operation. That's what it is.
It comes in a small box, and inside it there is, in addition to the laser rangefinder, only the MicroUSB charging cable, which after so many months of use has never been used. Alfawise LS-1 is a laser meter, so small and light that it can easily be placed in your pocket: 8.60 x 2.20 x 1.60 cm, for a weight of 30 grams.
Its operation is easy to say, and within everyone's reach, as no instruction is needed. On the body of the rangefinder, in addition to a black and white display, there is a single multi-function button. It is used to turn the device on and off, but also to take measurements.
With a long click, the rangefinder turns on, while with single clicks you point the laser and take the measurement, which will appear on the display. The three measurements previously taken will remain imprinted on this, plus the current fourth. In total, therefore, the last four measurements taken can be checked on the display.
The same power button, if pressed for about 5 seconds at start-up, will give access to a settings menu, where among others it will be possible to choose the unit of measurement: the factory is set to “meters”, but it will be possible to choose ” inches “or” feet “.
Coming to the measurements, which then represent the crucial aspect: each click is equivalent to a measurement, which is carried out almost instantaneously, within a few milliseconds.
Of course, to test the accuracy of the peripheral we relied on the most classic of meters. From this point of view Alfawise LS-1 has always proved to be precise, even more than the classic meter, considering that it measures to the millimeter, which often cannot happen with the classic meter.
On paper, the meter has a measurement range between 0.03 and 40 meters, while in our tests we were able to record, as the lowest measurement, 0.116 m. The type of laser used by the meter is 620 – 670 nm, less than 1 mw, and inside it houses a 180mAh lithium battery, which according to the manufacturer ensures about 3,000 measurements, which in normal use are equivalent to an eternity. And in fact, after months of use, we never needed to recharge the device.
Conclusions
About 12 euros is the cost of the Alfawise LS-1 rangefinder. We really have nothing to blame for the peripheral, which is worth all the money spent. Become a tool that will make a difference when needed.
Certainly not suitable for professionals, who need different equipment, but for everyday life it is really an absolutely useful resource.
