After waiting almost three years since its last update, Amazon announced a new version of the Kindle Paperwhite . The renowned e-reader comes with several novelties, although without straying too far from the formula that popularized it internationally. In this case, the improvements are specific, both in hardware and software, and come to strengthen the positive aspects already known and to respond in some sections in which it fell a little short.
The first thing to note is that the new Kindle Paperwhite now has a larger screen . The E-Ink panel is now 6.8 inches, boasts higher brightness and allows you to adjust the color temperature. An important point to note is that the density of pixels per inch of the previous model (300 dpi) is maintained despite the larger screen.
The other notorious fact is that Amazon has finally equipped the device with a USB-C port . The previous version of the Kindle Paperwhite, released in 2018, still included a micro USB, and it was one of the big reviews from users. So the update is not only welcome because it is a type of connection that we already see in a wide range of devices, but also because the battery charging time is reduced; specifically, the reader can be fully charged in just two and a half hours.
And autonomy is another of the great facets of this e-reader update. According to Amazon, the revamped Kindle Paperwhite increases its battery life to approximately 10 weeks . This is certainly a significant jump compared to the six weeks the previous model offered on a single charge.
But this is not all, since the device also incorporates a new processor that, according to the firm directed by Andy Jassy, allows “turning the pages 20% faster”, always in direct comparison with the previous model, of course. But this is not achieved only thanks to the hardware, but with the inclusion of improvements to the Kindle software.
Amazon's new Kindle Paperwhite doesn't change much in design

To accommodate the 6.8-inch panel, Amazon has chosen to minimize the edges; and that is the most noticeable modification at first glance. On the other hand, it is worth noting that the device now has 17 LEDs dedicated to the front backlight , a drastic change compared to the five in the 2018 version.
Storage remains at 8GB, although Amazon also introduced a higher-capacity variant. It is the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition , which comes with 32 GB of internal space and some extra news; for example, this version is compatible with Qi wireless charging and includes a sensor for automatic light adjustment . This last function has been inherited from the Kindle Oasis, clearly.
Upgrades don't come for free, of course. While the new model of the Kindle Paperwhite hits the market with a price that starts at $ 139.99 , the value of the Signature Edition starts at $ 189.99 . But this is not all, since Amazon has also presented a version of the Kindle Paperwhite for children; It's basically the same device, but with kid-friendly features, no ads, and a two-year warranty, and costs $ 160 .
