A powerful and compact speaker able to work seamlessly indoors or outdoors, by the sea, in the mountains, next to a swimming pool or to liven up an evening with friends? Anker Soundcore Motion + could be the answer to all these demands and we must say that it amazed us in several respects.
Before this it had never happened to us to test a speaker capable of bringing out a quality and sound power at such a high level. If we stop at the dimensions it is in fact easy to believe that it is not so different from the other speakers that are placed in the same price range and occupy approximately the same spaces.
Anker Soundcore Motion + is a surprise in every sense starting from the design, which follows that of the Soundcore range to which it belongs but appears fresh and totally focused on the sound system, which is the feature for which it is appreciated the most.
It is a real power in terms of reachable volume and the sound performance is taken to the extreme thanks to the intelligent subdivision of frequencies through various speakers balanced with each other with the best technologies of the moment. It may not be as glamorous as the Soundcore Model Zero but in terms of quality it is absolutely capable of giving it a hard time.
Com ' it's done
Let's start with the dimensions because it is on these that we will then have to compare the power and sound quality so much appreciated by our editorial staff: almost 25 centimeters in length by 7.5 centimeters in depth and a height that goes from another 7.5 centimeters for the part. front until it tightens to just 5 centimeters on the rear.
The first peculiarity of this speaker is in fact the orientation of the speakers, inclined approximately 15 degrees upwards with respect to the plane on which the speaker is placed. This – explains the company, and this reporter confirms it – ensures a better diffusion of the sound within the environment in which it is located and it is appreciated both standing in front of the speaker, and sitting maybe a few meters away. distance.
For the rest, aesthetically speaking it is not that different from the other speakers of the same Soundcore family. The lines are soft, the edges tapered, the surface that covers it is rubberized and the front side is characterized by a metal grid with holes wide enough to allow you to see the speakers clearly which protects from any impact.
This is why it differs from other portable speakers and is closer to the design of 90s HiFi stereos, where showing the vibrating drivers to the rhythm of the music being played was synonymous with quality and power.
Obviously there are two large feet on the bottom that stabilize the speaker when resting on a surface and there are also buttons for controlling music playback, recessed on the surface of the speaker.

How is it going
As already repeated several times, the audio quality of Anker Soundcore Motion + is insane. Although your reporter cannot define himself as an audiophile, behind him there are dozens and dozens of tests on speakers and headphones reported over the years on these pages, that is enough to allow you to give an opinion as complete and objective as possible.
There is not much to say except that this speaker, in relation to others of the same size, is actually ten spans above all: for power, because the volume it reaches is equal to that of a small home HiFi system but above all for quality, because the cleanliness of the sound and the perfect balance of the various frequencies is something that I have hardly found in most of the speakers tested to date.
Why it's so special
But saying that it “sounds like God” isn't enough if you don't explain at least briefly why Anker Soundcore Motion + is capable of all this. The data sheet does not say it but just look for the relevant page on the official website to find out. Inside there are two ultra-high frequency tweeters (40 kHz), two neodymium woofers and a passive radiator controlled by a dedicated DSP for each of them.
Together they deliver 30W, a fact that we cannot confirm or deny as we do not have a tool in the editorial office that allows us to do so, but we cannot omit the fact that in the past other speakers declared 30W did not even come close to these levels, in the sense that they were much less powerful and acoustically less defined. So either the others exaggerate in one way, or in declaring power Anker does it in the opposite (but for what purpose?).
But the number of drivers and their subdivision would not be enough to offer this quality. Alongside them there are in fact a series of technologies that improve the overall performance: one of these is the Qualcomm aptX technology, which preserves the sound quality when streaming via Bluetooth. Then there is the Hi-Res audio certification which makes the music sound like the artist built it during recording, and the BassUp technology which improves the amplification of the low frequencies.
Can we stop here? Not at all, because Anker Soundcore Motion + uses an active crossover and that makes all the difference in the world. The speech always starts from the same point: generally speakers of this size use a passive crossover filter, mainly because it costs much less. Therefore the manufacturer spends less (it is also easier to install), the consumer saves on the purchase but at the same time will have a much lower quality product in his hands.
We do not believe that this is the right place to discuss the functioning of the two types of filters (but if you are curious, it is explained very well here) but it is enough to know that the great advantage of the active crossover solution consists in the possibility of easily intervening on the settings of the filters, optimizing listening according to the acoustics of the room and the possibility of isolating the power amplifiers from each other, preventing obvious intermodulation phenomena from occurring in them too.
Other special signs
Power and quality aren't everything. Anker Soundcore Motion + uses the latest technologies also in terms of connectivity. Inside there is in fact a Bluetooth 5.0 chip which makes it ready for the latest generation smartphones and therefore capable of ensuring a more stable and possible connection from a greater distance (up to 30 meters against 10 of Bluetooth 4) and a port USB-C (it was time!) Instead of the more widespread microUSB, also here to benefit those who own recent generation devices and want to reduce the number of cables to use with the various accessories.
The integrated battery is 6,700 mAh and is fully recharged in 4 hours (with the speaker off and connected to a power supply capable of delivering 2A) and on paper it promises 12 hours of autonomy. In reality they are much less: we are around 5-6 hours if you listen to music transmitted via Bluetooth with the volume set to the maximum level.
It is also IPX7 certified so it resists rain, splashes of water and short dives up to one meter deep, weighs approximately one kilo and thanks to True Wireless Stereo technology it can be wirelessly connected to a second Anker Soundcore Motion + speaker for double the power and benefit from an interesting stereo effect thanks to the ability to separate the left and right channels (but we can't tell you more because the company has only lent us one).
I almost forgot: there is also the Soundcore app (for iOS and Android) through which you can adjust the customized equalization of the music you are listening to, but keep this in mind only if you are not already using others because in reality this is allowed from any other software that provides the rockers for the various frequencies.
Conclusions and price
Buying it or not does not depend only on the amount you want to invest for a portable speaker but also and above all on what you need. The 100 euros to take it home (it is on sale on Amazon) may in fact seem many or few based on the meter you use: they are a lot if you only need a generously powered speaker to amplify the music on your smartphone, perhaps from use indifferently on the beach or at home, but they are also few, very few, for the audio quality it gives to our ears.
Update: Anker Soundcore Motion + costs 100 euros but for a few days (until July 12) with the code AWM5U4VG you get a discount of 20 euros and you can pay only 79.99 euros. Shipping, by Amazon, is included in the price.
