The new iPhone models are usually unveiled by Apple during the first half of September, but this year the company will delay the announcement of its new smartphones probably until October. According to sources consulted by Bloomberg, usually reliable and well-informed, Apple has asked its suppliers in the East to produce at least 75 million new iPhones with 5G technology, for next-generation high-speed mobile connections, predicting demand for its own. smartphone in line with that of previous years, despite the coronavirus pandemic and changes in spending habits in some markets.
Four new iPhones
Also according to Bloomberg, in October Apple will present four new iPhone models with different designs, starting with the size of the screens. The company expects demand for these iPhones to be such as to allow it to sell at least 80 million by the end of the year, thanks to the Christmas shopping season, traditionally the most profitable for the technology sector dedicated to individual consumers.
The new iPhones will include two less expensive base models and two more advanced and expensive models. All four will be equipped with an OLED type screen, which compared to models with LCD offers better black and contrast rendering, and helps reduce battery consumption. The two base models will have a 5.4 and 6.1-inch screen respectively, while the higher-end (“Pro”) iPhones will have 6.1 and 6.7-inch screens. This latest model will be the largest ever made by Apple.
Aesthetically, the new iPhones will resemble the iPad Pro, therefore with less rounded edges, and the materials will change according to the models: aluminum for the two less expensive models and stainless steel for the Pro models. Inside there will be a new A14 processor to make them work, developed entirely by Apple as happened with previous versions and inserted in current iPhones. The novelty of 5G has been expected for at least a year, but the ability to navigate faster will depend above all on the telephone operators and on the progress of the development of the new generation mobile networks.
75 million
In recent years, Apple has always asked its suppliers to increase production in view of the announcement of the new iPhones, which are put on sale for a few weeks away from their presentation. Last year, the demand from suppliers was 75 million devices and the same had happened in 2018. This year there will be no difference despite the pandemic and, according to some sources, Apple could perform better than in previous years. Foxconn, the large Chinese company that produces most of the iPhones, in recent weeks has released several job advertisements to upgrade its production lines in the city of Zhengzhou (Henan), where it has one of its factories.
The design of the new iPhones had been completed before the acute phase of the pandemic, especially in the United States, but the spread of the coronavirus has slowed down the final stages of testing and testing the devices. These conditions led to a delay in the conclusion of the projects and consequently in the start of production. According to several sources, Apple will first sell the two new cheaper models of iPhones for this reason, and then the more expensive ones. It had already happened in the past that Apple delayed the start of sales of its smartphones, again for reasons related to the conclusion of their development and the start of production.
iPad and Apple Watch
Apple in the coming weeks should also present a new model of iPad Air, with a larger screen and without frames (therefore similar to that of the iPad Pro), two new versions of the Apple Watch and a new model of headphones, the first to be produced directly under its own brand (if we exclude the earphones) and not with that of the subsidiary Beats.
HomePod
According to information gathered by Bloomberg, Apple will also present a new HomePod, its home speaker that integrates the personal assistant Siri. The new model is expected to be smaller than the current one, but it is unclear whether it will replace the previous one or be offered as an alternative.
Two trillion billion
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Apple has not had any particular problems in terms of sales in recent months. Demand for its devices, including Macs, remained high and exceeded analysts' forecasts. IPhones alone make up half of Apple's sales, and the company has reached $ 2 trillion in stock market value.
