Home Reviews ,,,,,Among the supra-aural headphones that we tried recently we cannot fail to mention the August EP735, which are distinguished mainly by the presence of active noise cancellation technology as it significantly improves the soundproofing from external noise, but also for the lightness and comfort during use in long music listening sessions.
Accessories
The headphones are sold inside a hard case with a fabric lining on the outside and something like microfleece on the inside. The case is very thin and easy to carry, and to achieve this the company has decided to allow the pavilions to be folded in a different way than usual: instead of “closing” them inside the arch, they rotate around their own axis of 45 degrees, practically “flattening” inside the case.
At the center of the latter, in the empty area that is created between the pavilions and the headband, a perforated bag containing the charging cable, a 3.5mm jack cable for cable connection and an adapter with Velcro is anchored to the case. double jack plug for use in aircraft.
How they are made
The first thing that strikes you when you take the August EP735 headphones in your hand is the extreme lightness: this is confirmed by our kitchen scale, with which we have found that overall they weigh just 170 grams, about 40-50 grams less than most headphones of this category currently on the market.
When worn they practically “disappear” without weighing down the head, also helped by the padding in the upper part of the headband which greatly improves comfort. From this point of view, the pavilions are also excellent, large enough to completely envelop the ear (and thus avoiding leaving you with sore ears after hours and hours of continuous use) and slightly tilted back, adapting even better to the shape of the ears .
The distance between pavilions and headband can be adjusted thanks to the internal plastic structure with removable metal core. The whole structure of the headphones is made of plastic, apparently of very good quality, and completely wrapped in a very light rubberized layer that is very pleasant to the touch. In brushed aluminum and painted in red we find a ring that surrounds the external case of both pavilions, ensuring greater robustness to the headphones while also giving a touch of style at the same time.
The controls are all found on the outer cover of the right pavilion, below which the microUSB port for battery charging, the AUX socket and the microphone are located.
How are they doing
The audio quality is in line with the price range: the headphones offer excellent reproduction of the entire sound spectrum, with clean and crystalline highs, enveloping mids and present and full-bodied bass. Sound insulation improves dramatically the moment you press the ANC button to activate Active Noise Canceling technology. If it is operational, it can be seen from the green LED on, but also and above all from the “vacuum” effect that is perceived acoustically.
The maximum of this function is appreciated by listening to music, but it can actually make a difference even with headphones completely disconnected from any audio source. It is in fact possible to wear them simply to isolate yourself from external noises, perhaps to better concentrate on your work: at the time of writing we are carrying out this test again and the system once again proves to be successful in its meaning, significantly reducing the clicking of the keys on the keyboard and making the roar of the cars traveling the street below our apartment completely disappear.
Conclusions
The August EP735 headphones are really great from every point of view. They are very light and very comfortable to wear, they do not tire the ear as they do not even touch it, completely enveloping it thanks to the large pavilion.
The flexibility of the headband is excellent and this allows you to adapt the headphones without ever over tightening even if you wear them over a wool hat, and the audio quality is excellent for being able to appreciate the frequencies of a playlist while relaxing on the sofa. For complete immersion there is also the active noise cancellation technology, certainly not as miraculous as the one we find in professional headphones that cost over ten times the price of the August EP735 but more than enough to improve soundproofing from external noise.
Retail price
The August EP735 headphones are on sale on Amazon for 69.95 euros.
