Aukey AudioLink review, the multi-room wireless audio system

Home Reviews ,,,,, Would you like to be able to listen to your favorite playlist on a Bluetooth speaker and then move between the various rooms of the house without having to carry the speaker with you? No, you don't have to become Spider-Man but simply purchase Aukey's multi-room system speakers. It is called AudioLink and allows you to pair up to seven Bluetooth speakers together, which can be positioned in the corners of a room or in several separate rooms to simultaneously play the same playlist from a single smartphone.

Com 'is done

The case is almost cubic in shape (it measures 10.5 x 10.5 centimeters and is 8 centimeters high) with rounded corners. The upper surface is flat, in rigid plastic with rubber coating: the same is also found at the base, near the four protruding feet that ensure excellent grip of the case even on particularly smooth surfaces. The main casing lining is a perforated metal band that protects the drivers.

On the upper side there are five buttons: one dedicated to turning the speaker on and off, two are the volume rockers, one is the multifunction (M) button and the last, the central button, allows you to pair the speakers together, as well as function as a play / pause button during music playback. On the back, covered by a rubber cap, there is the microUSB input for charging and the AUX socket for connecting to an MP3 player or other audio source via cable.

The weight of the speaker is 770 grams, quite important if we compare it to the size of the case but on the one hand it gives a feeling of solidity to a product that is really well made both in the materials and in the structure, from the aesthetic point of view very much simple but equally elegant.

How to pair the boxes

The explanation on speaker coupling is worth a small chapter. In fact, the procedure described in the user manual is not correct and you run the risk of believing that your speakers are malfunctioning. In fact, in our experience we had to resort to technical assistance who described the steps to follow and which, as we said, are not those reported in the user manual.

First you need to turn on the cash desk you intend to use as the “center” of the whole system. The central logo will light up and start flashing blue. At this point it is necessary to activate Bluetooth on the smartphone and select the speaker to pair it with the device. When pairing is complete, the blue light will stop flashing and stay on continuously.

Now you need to turn on one of the secondary speakers. After turning it on, you will need to keep the central button pressed for about five seconds, until in practice the flashing blue logo turns green.

Now you have to be quick enough: you need to hold down the central key of the main speaker (blue) for 3 seconds, then release it. A blue led will begin to move in circles, following the perimeter of the ring that surrounds the blue illuminated triangle. This means that the speaker is in “find me” mode to pair with the other speaker. It is therefore necessary to carry out the same pressure, for 3 seconds, on the central key of the secondary speaker (green), until there too a green LED begins to rotate in a circle in the ring that surrounds the green triangle. This is the “I look for you” mode. We have to be quick, we said at the beginning, because this mode stops automatically if nothing is detected within 10 seconds. In case you are not fast enough you will have to repeat the process again.

In short, you must be in the condition that in both speakers the LED turns, on one side in blue (on the main speaker), on the other in green (on the secondary speaker). At this point both crates will start looking for each other and will find each other in about 10 seconds. The pairing is complete when the ring surrounding the luminous triangle lights up with a fixed light (green on one side, blue on the other).

How is it going

The audio quality of these speakers is insane. First of all, it must be said that the volume is independent of the smartphone, so we recommend that you first raise the volume of the speakers to the maximum using the (+) button. That the volume is at its maximum level can be understood from the circular LED that will light up in white covering, notch after notch, the entire perimeter of the circle.

At maximum volume it is difficult to stay inside a room with two speakers turned on at the same time. It is very strong, and remains so even around 80%, where in a small room it becomes bearable.

The sound performance is really excellent, with a faithful reproduction of all frequencies, from highs to mids and down to the lows. For highs and lows there are two different equalizations that can be activated by holding down the volume keys (+) and (-) simultaneously for two seconds. One of the two emphasizes the low frequencies, the other focuses on the highs: the first is therefore excellent for all those songs where there is a strong presence of the melodic bass line, especially with dance and techno songs, the second gives the best of himself on songs where the voice is important (imagine Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody) or in classical music songs.

With the volume halfway it becomes a classic Bluetooth speaker and loses a lot in terms of overall performance: we therefore recommend that you always listen to the music at a medium-high volume to fully benefit from the quality of the speaker.

In our tests (we had two speakers to try) we much preferred to use both of them in the same room, placing them at opposite corners to completely envelop the room with the sound of both. Even a single speaker, at maximum volume, is able to fill a medium-sized room but by pairing two together you can also manage a small house party effortlessly.

However, we also did some other tests by moving them to two different rooms to try the pleasure of moving from one side to the other without losing even a beat of our playlist, and the speakers performed well in any case. The maximum distance we reached between one box and another was about 8 meters, with two walls (with as many closed doors) separating the two rooms: the smartphone was in our pocket and followed us in all our movements. . Never once have we encountered a problem in the transmission or a difference in the reproduction of the song from one to the other speaker. The system is well conceived and does not suffer in any way from problems related to any latency due to the distance between the parts.

If you want, you can also connect an MP3 player via AUX, if you do not want to use your smartphone: this solution is the most interesting, for example when organizing a party, placing several speakers inside the house or in the same room and preparing in advance. a small MP3 player with all the songs you want to play, and without any interruption from your smartphone.

In fact, the latter reports all system sounds to the audio system and also automatically forwards any incoming phone call: by pressing the M key it is possible to answer the phone call using the microphone integrated in the speaker, but only from the one where the button. During the entire call, the other speakers will stop working: it is therefore not possible to move from one room to another to continue talking on the phone using all the speakers scattered around the house. This is a limit but also a function if we want to be linked to privacy, as other people near the other speakers scattered around the house will not be able to add to the conversation (nor will they be able to listen to it).

The autonomy of each speaker is about 6 hours, and it takes just over 3 hours to fully recharge the battery.

Conclusions

Aukey AudioLink is an interesting multi-room system that allows you to listen to the same audio stream on several speakers at the same time, which can be positioned in several different points of the same room or within various rooms. It must always be taken into account that they work with Bluetooth technology, therefore limited to 10 meters of operation.

The audio quality is excellent and they are very powerful: a single speaker is already able to easily fill a medium-sized room such as a living room, with two the enveloping sound effect doubles. It is also worth considering them to listen to the same playlist by moving from one room to another without moving your smartphone and cash register.

Price to the public

A single Aukey AudioLink speaker costs 82.99 euros. There is currently an active promotion that allows you to save 10 euros by purchasing two boxes.
