Home Reviews ,,,,, We recently had the opportunity to try a new Aukey dashcam model whose main peculiarity lies in the possibility of collaborating with an external GPS module. In practice, the camera is able to accurately detect the position of the vehicle by printing the coordinates and speed on video, thus offering more information on the dynamics of any accidents.
How it's made
The dashcam is made entirely of very light but seemingly resistant polycarbonate. If pressed between the fingers, the shell flexes slightly, but without creaking. The camera is installed on a movable stand that tilts 90 degrees to better fit virtually any windshield. On the one hand there is the microSD slot for storing recordings and the microphone hole, on the other hand there is a small button for the Reset.
On the rear side there are the miniUSB inputs for the power supply and the 3.5mm jack socket for connecting the GPS receiver, on the front there is the hook for the clip with 3M adhesive to be installed on the windshield, on the other a small LCD display to watch the camera view in real time and manage the menu options through the four buttons recessed on the lower edge.
Installation
After attaching the adhesive plate to the windshield (usually behind the rear-view mirror) it is necessary to connect the power cable to the plug included in the package or to a USB socket in the passenger compartment. The cable can be routed around the windshield by means of some clips included in the package, thus preventing it from hanging from the front glass to the power socket.
How it works
When the car is turned on, the dashcam will automatically take the necessary energy from the battery and turn on. It takes about 5 seconds to turn on completely, after which the camera (if previously inserted a microSD) will automatically start recording the video.
By default, the camera records short 3 minute clips and will automatically delete the oldest files when the memory is full. It is possible to adjust the various settings by calling up the menu by double pressing the third button from the left (down arrow). Here, in addition to choosing the resolution, you can activate / deactivate the microphone, change the date and time, format the card and much more.
The moment you turn off the car and remove the key from the dashboard, the dashcam will turn off and stop recording.

The recording was done in Full HD at 60 fps, but the camera can actually record even at a higher resolution, i.e. in 2K at 2160p and 24 fps. The quality is very good, the angle of view is wide (170 degrees) and the level of detail is such that it allows you to perfectly read the license plate of a vehicle that is 10-15 meters away, which is what matters. really in the event of a claim.
Conclusions
This dashcam is not among the best of its kind. We have in fact tried models with built-in battery that can record even when the car is turned off and parked (however currently illegal in Italy), however it does what it has to do and does it very well. The Full HD resolution, the wide angle of view, the excellent visibility even at night and the automatic recording (with short clips and with the auto-deletion of the oldest files with full memory) are fundamental functions for a product of this type. type and this Aukey has everything you need to be able to drive safely.
The GPS module, which can be purchased separately, is not essential but it may be worth the purchase given the negligible price as it adds two very useful information in the event of a claim (speed and GPS position).
