Home Hi-Tech Audio / Video / TV / Streaming ,,,,, The needs of users change, evolve, jump from one standard to another but above all they are led to advance towards the best of the available standards, while maintaining a good dose of compatibility with the past that allows you to maintain a certain security however things go. . We liked the Avantree Audition Pro right from the start for this ability to present itself in a very modern and competitive market, such as that of wireless headphones, but with a certain amount of compatibility (thanks to the analog Jack connector) and a very interesting design, a a certain natural class in proposing that betrays a typically European experience, even if the production is typically Asian.
Before detailing the various technical and ergonomic parts of these headphones, let us say that the judgment is positive and that it makes us see well towards other products of the same house that we will surely have the opportunity to know in the future, but also that once again this project shows how much after all, a good care of the materials and a good idea, even if not revolutionary, allows you to prepare a quality product without taking advantage of a prohibitive budget.
There are trade-offs, it is obvious, but they are not that big and the feeling is that we will often hear about these headphones in the future.
Audition Pro, the review
Comfort first of all
Once the box is opened, the headphones are not waiting for us, as was legitimate, but an interesting box in rubber and rigid fabric, including a hinge, which contains the actual product inside. Once opened inside we find the Audition Pro headphones, a double stereo jack audio cable for traditional analog use and a Micro USB cable for charging, plus the compliments for the purchase in a smiling brochure.
The box is well suited both to accommodate the headphones when we put them in the drawer, and when we are traveling, perhaps inside the bag, avoiding that the protruding parts on one side break and on the other damage more expensive material such as the MacBook Pro ( for bags that have only one large pocket).
The Audition Pro, in the model we received, are substantially divided into three large parts, the two large circumaural pavilions plus the arch that unites them: in the joint of these a small cable connects everything supported by a metal structure and allows the communication between the right and left side, in a broadcast look a bit '80s, even if it is an evergreen classic that never clashes.
The pavilions are made externally with soft touch dark plastic while the arch is covered in a very soft imitation leather. The best thing about headphones, hardened audiophiles don't want them, is that they are really comfortable: maybe not the latest when worn on the tram, bus or subway, but still light and comfortable even when worn for several hours. The shape of the pads and the soft material surrounding the headband tend towards an interesting internal looseness that is very pleasant to wear.
From the point of view of the look we see them perfect for the user who, at home or in the office, needs a good pair of wireless headphones to better concentrate on work, to enjoy a movie or an album on iTunes or to play ( however, they are not suitable for pro gaming sessions, or for eSports). Otherwise they can be used safely both on the train, plane, tram, on the street or in the park, even if outdoors the classic look recalls a certain forcing, considering what the market now presents with softer and less protruding lines.
Analog Bluetooth
As far as we have been able to see and try, the Bluetooth connection is very stable, and we have never had sudden disconnections or indecisions, even when using it outdoors: the battery life has always guaranteed the arrival in the evening in total tranquility (40 hours suggested by the site are perhaps optimistic).
Among other things, the headphones apparently do not have a timeout: this means that even in the absence of a signal they never turn off completely, unless the user does, which is very convenient in the studio, when the no signal is a very common factor and you don't need to reactivate them every time.
One of the most curious aspects was the positioning of the controls, on the roof, but on the left, when competing models usually prefer the right side.
The commands are divided into three buttons: the central one commands ignition, pairing (pressed for a few seconds) as well as the acceptance and end of a call. The side buttons instead allow you to increase or decrease the volume or to control playback. Pressing the two volume keys at the same time turns on a bass mode, interesting but not decisive.
In the same pavilion there is, at the bottom, the small hole for the microphone (which can be improved), the socket for charging via Micro USB (with a small closing panel, it is assumed for greater cleanliness in the lines) and finally the stereo audio jack connector .
The audio jack allows the headphones to work even when flat, which is always a nice advantage, despite the important life of the batteries.
The side controls are not customizable, as there is no App inclined to the purpose: the only feedbacks are a voice that greets us at start-up and announces the connection to a device and at shutdown, albeit with a fairly modest audio quality. The other only feedback is a small red LED that lights up while charging (indicating partial status).
The audio response
One of the most important aspects of these headphones is undoubtedly the audio response, in terms of both listening quality and response time. The Audition Pro using the AptX technology for audio transmission, available for various types of products, such as many Android smartphones, Android TVs and computers (including the Mac, although it is necessary to activate it manually), but leaving out the iOS products as iPhone or iPad.
The AptX codec used is AptX Low Latency, ideal for watching movies or during a gaming session, where in both situations, audio-video synchronization is essential. To tell the truth, we used the headphones a lot with the iPhone, as well as with the Mac, but we did not notice any lag whatsoever (with the iPhone the headphones should automatically select the AAC codec, even if the conditional is a must because Apple does not release detailed specifications about it).
The audio quality is good: try with different types of listening, from Taylor Swift to Hans Zimmer, passing from John Paesano to Metallica, up to the music of Blizzard games such as Starcraft and Diablo, the headphones have shown themselves worthy of an excellent performance ratio, considering the cost at which they are proposed.
The musical timbre is warm and the higher frequencies are not as detailed as on higher end models, but overall this is a very good result. The frequency range of 20Hz-20KHz ideally covers almost all the sounds that the human ear can perceive, even if it does not reach a higher level of detail as required by more professional products in our opinion it is suitable for the purpose for which the headphones are been designed.
A nice gift
Certainly not the earphones to keep in your pocket, but a good product to be exploited in front of the Mac, with the new smart TV, various consoles and, why not, even with smartphones and tablets, to enjoy the latest, beautiful, Black Mirror series on Netflix (even if we who do this job also liked The Newsroom very much, unencrypted on Rai3) or the match of the favorite team, without disturbing those around us.
The packaging, the accessories, the methods, the intrinsic quality of the audio but above all the comfort with which they are quietly in the head for eight hours straight in the office are parameters that here definitely take a good turn for a product that, offered at a price price list of about 120 Euros, our readers can find on offer on Amazon, perhaps adding the excellent stand for headphones.
