Bill Gates resigned from the Microsoft board of directors

Bill Gates, a well-known American entrepreneur and philanthropist, resigned from the board of directors of Microsoft, the company he founded in 1975. Gates motivated his decision by explaining that he wanted to devote more time to his philanthropic activity, which in recent years has devoted many of its resources. Gates has also stepped down from the board of directors of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett's main company, of which he has been a member since 2004. Gates, who is 64, had already left his operational job at Microsoft in 2008.

Gates announced his decision on Friday, explaining that Microsoft “will always be an important part of my working life” and will continue to offer technical advice to the company's executive director, Satya Nadella.

Gates will dedicate himself in particular to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the philanthropic association he founded with his wife in 2000. In 2018 the two were listed as the most generous philanthropists in the United States by the non-profit magazine The Chronicle of Philanthropy for donating to foundation, in the previous year, 4.8 billion dollars, approximately 4.3 billion euros.
