Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,, When you buy an iPhone, the first thing that comes to mind is to combine a cover, more or less protective, also to personalize it or, why not, add different features. In this TwelveSouth is always ready to provide refined, valuable and original solutions, even if certainly not suitable for everyone. On test the BookBook cover for iPhone X and XS, which transforms the device into an ancient manuscript.
The manufacturer puts the utmost care in its products, starting with the sales package, always treated under the smallest details. From the opening you get a feeling of excellent quality. It is a book-size cover for iPhone X and XS: the rear corner at the top left is completely open, and this allows you to perfectly adapt the cover to the two iPhone models, despite the microscopic differences in the rear camera module.
On an aesthetic level, the result is there for all to see: just look at the photos to understand the stylistic nature of the case. It is not a solution for everyone, and it is certainly not one of the most minimal. It significantly increases the thickness of the device, and certainly does not go unnoticed when you take it out of a (large) pocket. After inserting the iPhone in the cover, you will find in your hands a real ancient manuscript, cured from all points of view. Those who observe it from afar, but also closely, will believe that it is a small Bible, or an ancient text.
Certainly it is a prestigious cover, entirely made of high quality leather, not only outside but also inside. This is testified by the real leather logo engraved inside, but it is also confirmed by the unmistakable scent that only real leather emanates and by the lines and ripples that will form from the first use, and which will increase its value and beauty with the weather.
The design is undoubtedly refined, with resistant stitching in plain sight, as well as grooves and engravings that embellish the whole and make the cover an exact copy, one by one, of an ancient manual. In short, you have the feeling of having a small pocket book in your hands, bound in leather by hand, with a definitely vintage look.
It is clear, the choice will not please everyone, and it is not a mass cover, to show off in all situations. Beyond the tastes, however, the quality of the materials and the attention to detail are not discussed.
Abandoning the aesthetic factor, we realize that the solution, as for the TwelveSouth Journal cover, has some advantages: it allows you to leave your wallet at home, taking only the iPhone covered by the cover in your hand. In this way, in fact, you will have both your smartphone and money, documents, credit card, debit card, driving license available, as long as you have the documents available in the compact plasticized versions, in card format.
By opening the cover, in fact, you will immediately notice on the right the large space reserved for the transport of documents, credit cards and cash. Moreover, the last compartment on the left is equipped with a transparent window, therefore suitable for leaving the photo of the identification document in plain sight, so as to be able to show it without even having to extract it.
On the opposite side, however, the iPhone X or XS will be housed, and “immobilized” inside a rigid shell, which is also internally lined in soft leather: the solution thus avoids scratching the iPhone frames. The protection offered is high and almost total: the only exposed part, but protected by abundant and protruding edges, is the lower one where the speakers and the Lightning connector are located, in this way the audio is not obstructed and we have free access to the recharge.
Obviously, although the cover is extensively protective and enveloping, it leaves all the buttons of the iPhone completely available and usable, as well as free are the lens and rear flashes to take pictures and record videos in freedom, even these both super protected by an abundant protective edge. several millimeters thick. More than a cover, the use of this particular case is reminiscent of the use of a wallet: it is bulky just like a coin purse , and the shape and size are also similar. Even the materials, genuine leather, are very reminiscent of a fine wallet.
But there are still a couple of cartridges that TwelveSouth leverages on. First of all, the inner cover that houses the iPhone can be removed. In this case you will be able to enjoy a much thinner and minimal cover, a little more traditional, but equally protective and of quality. In this way you will lose the vintage effect and the practicality of the document or coin holder, but you will gain in portability. It will be like having two covers in one.
In addition, the last arrow in its bow, BookBook also acts as a practical stand to keep the iPhone tilted towards the user, so you can watch movies or multimedia content, as well as being able to make FaceTime or Skype video calls completely hands-free.
Conclusions
For dimensions and weight BookBook for iPhone X and XS cannot be compared to the thin and light covers that are used for the greater. It should be compared more to a well-made wallet with fine materials. It offers maximum protection for the device, includes a second removable cover, and offers an absolutely refined and original aesthetic.
If it doesn't scare you, and indeed the vintage style attracts you, it is definitely the accessory for you.
