Broadband diffusion in Italy: speeds improve and data traffic grows

The Agcom Communications Observatory for the year 2021 has just been available, which provides interesting statistics regarding the use of the network (but not only) in Italy: usage is growing fiber optic connections and generally improves the speed of the network.

In particular, 75% of the total fixed lines have speeds of at least 30Mbit / s , while the lines that manage to reach 100Mbit / s have passed from 16.5% to 59.4% . The FTTC (Fiber To The Cabinet) lines increased by over one million compared to last year, while the FTTH (Fiber To The Home ) increased by approximately 800 thousand units . The Fixed Wireless Access (Fwa), lines also grew, which saw a increase of 239 thousand units.

Average daily data traffic is growing: in particular, in the first 9 months of the year it increased by 21% compared to last year. Surely this increase is given above all to the great diffusion of streaming services, which due to the pandemic have grown a lot.

As regards the mobile networks , the average monthly data consumption since the beginning of the year can be estimated at approximately 12.3 GB / month, up by 29.3% compared to the period June-September 2020. For more information, please refer to the complete report accessible from here.
