Broadcom wants to buy Symantec, Bloomberg says

The US multinational Broadcom, one of the most important semiconductor manufacturers in the world, is considering the acquisition of Symantec, a historic company specializing in IT security. The news is not yet official and was released by Bloomberg based on some information gathered from sources inside Broadcom.

Broadcom has been involved in acquisitions of software companies for some years: last year, for example, it obtained control of CA Technologies for $ 18 billion. Symantec is the largest manufacturer of antivirus and cybersecurity software in the world, providing support to approximately 350,000 companies and 50 million individual users. In recent years, however, the company has had to deal with a downsizing of its business, due in part to greater competition in the sector and the availability of free tools, offered directly by companies that produce operating systems, for the security of information systems.
