Broadcom will purchase Symantec's business services arm for $ 10.7 billion

US multinational Broadcom, one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world, has announced that it will purchase the business services arm of Symantec, a long-standing cybersecurity company. The acquisition had been talked about for several weeks, even if it had not been confirmed by the companies concerned: the transaction will cost Broadcom $ 10.7 billion and should be concluded by the end of 2019.

Symantec is the largest manufacturer of antivirus and cybersecurity software in the world, providing support to approximately 350,000 companies and 50 million individual users. In recent years, however, the company has had to deal with a downsizing of its business, due in part to greater competition in the sector and the availability of free tools, offered directly by companies that produce operating systems, for the security of information systems.
