Home iPadia iPad Accessories ,,,,, The world of accessories for Apple's smartphones and tablets has an endless number of stands, docks and supports for iPads. It starts from a few euros, up to a few hundred, of any shape, size and material. Today Cyber Layman tests Twelve South's Compass Pro, a well-known manufacturer of accessories for Apple devices. Here's what's special.
Unboxing
Whether it is a quality accessory, not one of the most common, can be understood above all from the sales package. Although this is a support, the sales bundle is richer than usual. First of all, it is impeccably packaged, and the packaging also has its weight and quality. Inside, in addition to the support, a kit of stickers from the manufacturer, a quick guide and a practical fabric case to store Compass Pro and transport it in total safety. This is a feature that is not usually included in the cheapest media.
Compass Pro was born from the need to create an optimized support for the latest Apple iPad Pro, even if it is functional with any type of iPad, also compatible with the iPad mini series. It is an almost universal accessory, suitable for all tablets, even for Android ones.
Features
The first element that differentiates Compass Pro from many other supports available for tablets are the materials. Twelve South's support is made of metal, therefore very heavy and usual compared to competitors. While the heaviness could be perceived as a negative note, it is not: let's not forget that it is optimized for the weight of an iPad Pro, even 12.9 inches.
Its heaviness also translates into consistency and maximum solidity, remaining well anchored to the desk. In addition to the metal, Compass Pro has silicone inserts, especially at the feet where the tablet is placed.
Beyond the materials, the aspect that most sets it apart from its competitors is its versatility. It is essentially made up of three feet: two at the front to support the iPad, one at the back for tilting. The stand will allow you to obtain, mainly, three different viewing angles.
The first rather standard angle, with the iPad almost “standing”, so great for writing, playing or just watching a movie. Second position with the screen more inclined, therefore suitable when using it while standing in front of a desk; third position, with the screen particularly inclined, almost parallel to the desk, useful position for typing texts, to transform the iPad into a raised keyboard.
The three different adjustments are possible thanks to a small movable flap located behind the third foot, the rear one, which itself can be lengthened or shortened.
User experience
Compass Pro is a quality support, versatile, suitable for any situation and any iPad, even if in fact optimized for full size ones. Compact when folded, it can be easily carried in your bag, and takes up practically the size of a large pen. You can also put it in your pocket, or in any pocket of a trolley, occupying an almost zero thickness.
Ideal for those who love to draw on iPad with Apple Pencil, thanks to the possibility of tilted in numerous positions, as well as ideal for those who use the Apple tablet for typing more or less long texts. Very solid and robust, on the desk it does not allow the tablet to move, even when interacting with the display, therefore it resists well to taps and perfectly counterbalances the weight of the tablet.
Conclusions
There are, of course, many iPad stands, many of which cost a very few dollars. Compass Pro, of course, belongs to another category: from the quality of the materials to the design, from the versatility to the details. It is well built and makes a great complement to the Apple device, especially for owners of a 12.9-inch iPad Pro. For those who have the largest tablet of the Apple, it is an accessory that certainly deserves the investment.
It costs $ 60 and can be purchased on the official website. At the moment it is not yet available on Amazon, where there are many accessories for Apple devices made by Twelve South.
