DB Magix AC2 review, test of the jack-Lightning audio adapter with pass-through socket

Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,, dB Magix AC2 is the evolution of AC1, an MFi audio adapter that we tested last summer and which mainly stands out for its superior build quality. The functions are in fact the same: it allows you to connect headphones with a 3.5mm jack cable through the Lightning port of the iPhone and iPad and at the same time recharge the battery using the built-in pass-through Lightning socket.

The review

The adapter consists of two parts: a small cable (5 cm long) with a very compact Lightning plug on one side, on the other the “heart” of the system is enclosed within a black satin aluminum case and similar in size to an SD card (specifically it measures 3.6 x 2.5 x 0.8 centimeters).

On the same side where the cable is incorporated there is the through Lightning socket, useful for recharging the connected iPhone or iPad, on the opposite side there is the 3.5mm audio jack with gold plating, so a lot more resistant to possible oxidation than the classic nickel used on many other competing solutions. On the outer edge, on the other hand, the three buttons (+, – and M) are recessed which allow you to manage music playback without going through the app.

How is it going

In addition to allowing the cable connection of headphones with jack plug, through the SoundWise app it is possible to boost the frequencies through the Hi-Fi slider that allows you to boost audio playback with two different intensities. The final quality is the same as we found with previous adapters: AC2 does nothing but allow the connection of classic headphones with wire and 3.5mm jack plug on iPhone 7, iPhone 8 (and respective Plus) and iPhone X, ensuring the same sound performance as if they were equipped with a jack socket like previous generations.

With this adapter, however, you can increase the body of the frequencies with the digital boost and the through Lightning socket also allows you to recharge the device at the same time, an excellent opportunity especially if you listen to music for several consecutive hours.

Conclusions and retail price

In our opinion the only defect of this accessory is the price, which could make you desist from the purchase: on the other hand the functions offered are not indispensable and do not justify the price difference with the original Apple adapter, which does not offer any boost nor a thru-socket, but it costs almost nine times less.

AC2 is in fact on sale on Amazon for 79.99 euros. However these days with the code 929GT9E6 you can get a discount of 16 euros and pay 63.99 euros.
