Home Reviews ,,,,, DBPower SDY019 has arrived in the editorial office a few days ago, a Bluetooth speaker that differs from the crowd mainly for two reasons. On the one hand its elongated shape, which makes it aesthetically similar to a soundbar, on the other hand the numerous possibilities of use, ranging from playing music via Bluetooth or via AUX cable to reading music stored on microSD and USB sticks. The integrated FM radio completes the circle and the alarm mode that turns the speaker into an accessory that can also be placed on the bedside table in the bedroom.

As we said, this speaker is aesthetically similar to a soundbar. Meter in hand, it is precisely 24 centimeters long and 5 centimeters thick, while the height is 4 centimeters behind and 6.5 centimeters at the front, which makes the case slightly oblique to direct the speakers slightly upwards.
The design is very edgy. The case is made of polycarbonate coated with a thin rubber coating while the front cover of the drivers is made of metal. At the base there are three feet, two long on the sides and a central circular one: they are aligned with the case and the rubber that distinguishes them is very “sticky”, an advantage for adherence to the surfaces where it rests but also a magnet for the dust.
The controls are placed on the top edge. There are 6 circular buttons that allow you to (from left to right): start / stop music playback or answer an incoming phone call, adjust the volume (with a long press) or skip tracks (with a single click), manage the alarm section, access the radio and activate Bluetooth.
On the back there is the On / Off switch, the microUSB socket for charging the internal battery, the AUX input and the microSD and USB slots.
Constructively it looks very good, if you take it in your hands and try to twist it, the plastic does not creak in the least, on the contrary it resists even the most insistent of bending, giving the impression of being a very sturdy product.
How is it going
Let's start first with the controls: when listening to music via Bluetooth there is a delay of about one second between pressing the physical button on the speaker and the relative implementation of the associated command, whether it is the Play / Pause button or skipping tracks. The volume adjustment is also double: it is therefore convenient to raise the volume of the smartphone or the speaker to the maximum (there are 16 levels available) if you want to be able to reach the maximum at any time and control everything from a single device.
The audio quality is very good. All frequencies are reproduced very well, especially the bass which with songs such as Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys or Bass Can You Hear Me by Beat Dominator literally make the bass drum vibrate, even if it will not move an inch thanks to the excellent grip of the gummy feet. The low frequencies significantly lose power as soon as the volume is reduced by a few notches, bringing it to around 75%: in this condition the speaker becomes rather a “company” speaker, especially if it is positioned in a living room or in a room. medium size.
At the same price we tried better quality speakers from the point of view of audio reproduction, but actually those who buy this speaker do not do it to have a very powerful speaker, but rather to be able to listen to music practically anywhere. As anticipated it can in fact read the songs stored in microSD and USB sticks, which can be connected on the back to the respective sockets. The radio is also very convenient, which, following a quick search for FM stations, allows you to jump between one and the other with a single click, without having to pass through empty frequencies.
It is also particularly interesting to use it as an alarm clock: if you activate the clock mode, the case goes into a sort of Standby, simply showing the time on the small LCD display recessed on the front. Programming the alarm is a moment and at the indicated time the cash desk will emit a loud acoustic signal which, between one beep and the next, can only be stopped by pressing one of the buttons on the speaker.
Conclusions
DBPower SDY019 is a Bluetooth speaker a little different from the usual ones, both for the elongated shape and for the functions offered. It is also an alarm clock, has a radio and also reads music from external media, for a practically unlimited possibility of use. The autonomy is very good (we are around 5 hours of continuous playback at maximum volume) and the possibility of using it also to answer a phone call on speakerphone make it a truly complete accessory.
