Home Reviews ,,,,, For the past few weeks, we've given up on our computer's trackpad to try out DBPower's mouse and completely introduce it into our workflow. It is a very cheap product (it costs only 13 euros on Amazon) and due to its shape it allows you to hold it in an easy position, designed – like mice of its kind – to avoid the annoying carpal tunnel syndrome.
It is therefore an excellent solution for those who work several hours at the computer and want to avoid straining the wrist but in our opinion it is still an immature product: first of all there is no compatibility with Mac, reported instead in the product sheet (and therefore forced us to move our tests on Windows), it is not possible to customize the keys and it has a standby timer that is too fast.
As did
Constructively it is well done. The whole case is in polycarbonate covered with a thin rubberized glaze, very pleasant to the touch. As mentioned it is a vertical mouse: on the left side there is a thumb recess with a rubber cover and embossed texture, next to which there are two buttons, each marked with an arrow.
On the opposite side there are the two main buttons, left and right, the central wheel (clickable) and a DPI button to adjust the speed of the pointer with a click. This area is very large and has enough space to accommodate the little finger, so that it does not have to rub on the support surface as it happens with some small vertical mice.
At the base is the ON / OFF switch, four plastic-coated areas to allow for smooth sliding when used on desks without a mouse pad and battery tray. It is powered by two AAA mini styluses not included in the package. The IR receiver is also housed in this compartment, which must be inserted into the USB socket of the computer.
How is it going
We used it for several days, for several consecutive hours a day. Its greatest advantage is certainly its position, which makes its use truly comfortable. The wrist falls into a really comfortable position and there is no need to “get used” to this new position, which is completely natural.
The main keys, the left and right, have a stroke that seems quite long when clicked, although they actually move a few millimeters. The click is quite audible, even if the loudest keys are the side ones… which cannot be customized. In fact, there is no software and it will therefore be necessary to accept the default associated functions from the system, which in navigation on the browser (for example) correspond to the clicks back and forth between the pages in the session history.
The DPI button, on the other hand, is very convenient, allowing you to switch between four different speeds, respectively at 3000, 2400, 1200 and 1600 dpi. This way you can browse the web, play games or draw in Photoshop and quickly adjust the cursor speed accordingly.
The feature that we have not digested anymore is the standby time of the mouse: the device “falls asleep” after a few seconds of inactivity, forcing us to press any key to be able to wake it up. As mentioned there is no software to customize the mouse and therefore not even a way to extend the Standby time, which can be really annoying if you are working on a project that requires you to switch from mouse to keyboard and vice versa several times.
Conclusions
We find it difficult to recommend this product not only because of the lack of software that allows us to customize timeouts and buttons, but also because of its incompatibility with Mac, a feature that is probably the most sought after by our audience.
What makes it interesting for some are certainly the competitive price and the vertical position, convenient for those who work at the computer and want to avoid tiring the wrist.
Price to the public
DBPower's mouse costs 9.99 euros. Thanks to a code ( XIDPBIE7 ) valid only for a few days it costs you only 5.99 euros
