Disney's metaverse begins to take shape

The Disney metaverse has begun its development, now it is. According to The Verge, Disney has already taken the first steps to bring its new project based on virtual reality to a successful conclusion. In this way, they announce that the division in charge of developing the metaverse already has a new person in charge among its ranks.

Mike White has been selected as the new senior vice president of next generation storytelling and consumer experiences. Likewise, the executive has left his former position of vice president of consumer experiences and platforms.

According to the explanation offered by Disney to the Reuters media, Mike White will have the mission of “helping define how consumers experience the arrival of Disney in the metaverse.” Likewise, Bob Chapek, CEO of Disney, assured the aforementioned media outlet that White will work together with the creative teams within the company.

To do this, Mike will quickly create a structure and put processes in place to prioritize and allocate resources, explore partnerships, and facilitate knowledge sharing. Mike will also lead a working group that will bring together senior leadership from across the company's core disciplines, including technology, strategy and, of course, storytelling.

Bob Chapek, Head of Disney White, for his part, already has a lot of experience behind him. The executive has 25 years of experience in the field of technology and leadership. Mike White joined Disney in 2011, according to his LinkedIn account; position he reached after leaving Yahoo, a company where he spent more than nine years

Disney prepares the foundations of its metaverse

Virtual Reality In November 2021, Bob Chapek announced that Disney was already beginning its foray into the metaverse. According to the person in charge of the company, they have many plans to combine elements of the physical and digital world. In this way, Disney plans to create advanced storytelling, with a metaverse that he has described as “the next great frontier of storytelling.”

For nearly 100 years, our company has defined and redefined entertainment by harnessing technology to bring stories to life in deeper, more impactful ways. Today we have the opportunity to connect those universes and create a whole new paradigm for how audiences experience and engage with our stories.

Bob Chapek, Head of Disney According to a patent reported earlier this year by the PhocusWire medium; Disney would plan to use the power of its metaverse to improve the experience within its parks. As the website describes the listed patent, the technology would include a “projection device and tracking system that would allow Disney to display virtual effects at a real-world location.”

A computer platform communicates with the projection device and background tracking system to map the venue and identify the virtual effects to be displayed.

PhocusWire More and more companies are betting on a metaverse. A few days ago we commented on YouTube's strategy to be part of this phenomenon; while companies like Nintendo and Apple seem to be studying ways to implement it within their ecosystems. Of course, Meta is the one carrying out the plan with the greatest intention, betting the future of her company on the virtual reality market.
