Dodocool DA109 are an interesting alternative, for design and accessories, to the classic Bluetooth earphones to leave in the gym bag. Recently tested, they are light and pleasant to wear, they also offer excellent soundproofing from external noise, therefore excellent for dedicating yourself to your workouts without distractions. They are sold together with a practical carrying case which, combined with the interchangeable in-ear flaps and pads included in the package, represents an added value for a rather economical product in relation to the overall quality.
Going back to talking for a moment about the case , it is in fact inside this case that the earphones are shipped together with the short user manual and accessories to customize the headphones. It is quite small (closed it measures about 11.5 x 6 x 3.6 centimeters) and with a sturdy shell although it is quite flexible to crushing. Shell that we find externally covered with a leather-like layer while inside the lining is very soft and warm to the touch. Also excellent is the hinge , red and rather sturdy, which almost completely opens the box to ensure practical access to the inside. Here, on one side there is ample space for the headphones, on the other half a retina guarantees a more stable housing for the charging cable, rubber pads and interchangeable fins.
The earphones are aesthetically very similar to others of the same type. They are connected to each other by a cable , in this case almost 50 centimeters long and characterized by a red-colored, flat-type sheath, very comfortable as it is light and more resistant to tangles. Near the right earphone there is the remote control , in plastic coated with a thin black rubber layer. With a rounded shape on the sides, it is quite large and houses three buttons, the multifunction one and the two keys dedicated to volume adjustment and management of audio tracks (but not only). On the other side there is the hole for the microphone while the microUSB socket is recessed along one edge, well protected by a rubber cap to protect it from water and sweat.
The earphones are also they characterized by a rubberized plastic shell: on the outermost side we find a metal plate, well finished by a texture of thin and concentric circles and under which is positioned a magnet which allows you to join them to lock them around the neck like a necklace when they come off the ears. Compared to other headphones of this type, the magnet has the sole function of locking the earphones: there is in fact no function associated with music playback. Furthermore, the magnetic force is sufficient to keep them firmly in place when placed around the neck but you must not exaggerate: a few hops are enough to make them release following contact with your chest.
The fins are constructed so as not to affect with the functioning of the earphones and above all with their aesthetics in case you decide to remove them. That is, they are not essential or necessary for listening to music even if their presence ensures a better stability of the headphones in the ears, especially during a run or in general with sudden head movements.
The audio quality , as we expect, it's very good and focused on low frequency reproduction. The sound in general is a bit more closed than other headphones designed for audiophile listening, but even the most common Apple EarPods offer a clearer and more crystalline sound. In short, they are not headphones for listening to opera or classical music which, according to some of our tests, loses a lot in terms of general sound performance.
Without discussing the tastes and musical habits of those who train in the gym, from this point of view are instead very good with all those songs where bass and drums play an important role in the context. But even in songs like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody the melodic bass line is more present than it actually is: emphasizing this concept they would almost lend themselves to studying this instrument without having to handle the equalizer to suppress some frequencies in an attempt to bring out the lower ones. At around 60% volume, the bass notes in Beastie Boys' Brass Monkey literally vibrate the eardrums. In short, they are the classic headphones that, with the right songs, “pump”.
Conclusions and retail price
Speaking of audio quality, the Dodocool DA109 earphones didn't seem so different from many other headphones that we find on the market and that are around the same price range. From this point of view, however, it is worth buying these earphones if you do not have one – or if the old ones are broken – and you want to aim for something better from a constructive point of view, perhaps also in consideration of the fact that, in the 'purchase, an excellent case will be included to store them in the bag after training without risking breaking them in case the backpack falls or is carelessly crushed.
You buy them on Amazon for 24 , 99 euros.
