Dodocool DA122, Lightning support for charging iPhone and iPad

Home iPadia iPad Accessories ,,,,, Practical and minimal. These are the two adjectives that best describe Dodocool DA122, a support with Lightning plug that our editorial team has had the opportunity to try recently and that allows you to recharge your iPhone and iPad by tidying up your desk while minimizing the overall dimensions.

As did

The support consists of two parts: a base (100g, 8 x 7.3 x 2.3 cm) in sturdy black plastic and completely covered with a rubberized surface, and a sort of removable backrest in transparent plastic (10g, 7.3 x 6.5 x 0.3 cm) on which the back of the iPhone being recharged will rest.

On the upper edge of the base, the Lightning connector , MFI certified, features a system that makes it quite mobile and easy to adapt to any iPhone, even with a case in tow . Then there are two slots to fit the removable plate and a wider opening (1.1 cm) where you can possibly also place an iPad, perhaps recharging using any cable we have at home.

The bottom of the base is completely covered with a rubber layer a few millimeters thick which ensures excellent adherence even on the smoothest surfaces. On the rear edge we find instead two sockets, one microUSB for connecting the relative cable included in the package to the appropriate power supply and one 3.5 jack mm for cable connection to a stereo or a Bluetooth speaker.

How is it going

We have made several tests with iPhone 7, iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 1, with and without case, finding that even with the most bulky iPhone cover (one of the shockproof ones) the support ensures full compatibility when connected through the built-in Lightning socket, although the phone is tilted almost vertically as the larger dimensions do not allow the device to rest its back on the removable plate. To be precise only with the ultra-thin cases (as well as with the iPhone without any cover) the device rests completely on the holder.

It is also possible to use the support to recharge the iPad and the opening on the back, as previously mentioned, allows you to support a second device tilted on the back, even if from this point of view it will be necessary to distribute the weights correctly.

With the iPhone in front and the iPad mini behind there are no problems, but if we place a heavier iPad instead of the latter, the support will inevitably tilt. In cases like this it may be worth reversing the positions, using the front Lightning socket for charging the iPhone and placing the iPhone on the back instead.

With two iPads (mini in front, Air in back) the support is at the limit: looking at it in profile you can see a slight lifting of the front of the support and in fact with a light tap you risk making it overturned.

The opening on the back can also be convenient for storing an e-reader: we tried with our faithful Kindle and the result is actually the best, especially because for our tests we preferred to use the stand on the bedside table in the bedroom, favorite place for our daily reading.

Conclusions

We particularly liked this holder for its simple design, compact size and its compatibility for use with any iPhone and iPad (preferably Mini), with or without a cover. It is particularly convenient in the bedroom especially if the iPhone also acts as an alarm clock for the morning and thanks to the AUX socket on the back it can also make an appearance on the desk in the office or on the shelf in the living room, perhaps using the base as a place to recharge the iPhone. and listen to its music by connecting it via cable to a stereo or a Bluetooth speaker.
