EA surprise announces three new Star Wars games

Although the licensing agreement between EA and the now Disney-owned franchise ends next year, that doesn't mean we're going to run out of Star Wars games. The company has announced three titles of the most famous science fiction saga in the world, although it has not specified details of their launch.

In this sense, it will be three different and independent titles. On the one hand, the company points to the release of a game from the Jedi universe (presumably the sequel to Fallen Order), a Star Wars FPS and a real-time strategy game.

The highlight is that the three new Star Wars games are run by Respawn Entertainment, the developer of hits like Apex Legends, Titanfall and the aforementioned Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The study is the one that leads the new releases under the supervision of Vince Zampella, one of the greats in the industry.

It seems that Zampella's work in the coming years is going to be titanic, in terms of supervising the saga within EA, he is also in charge of the Battlefield franchise, after the debacle of 2042:

“We are huge Star Wars fans here at Respawn and are thrilled to be working with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years. If you want to make great Star Wars games, you should join us on our journey.”

And de Zampella isn't the only big name involved in the development and release of the three new Star Wars games. EA has confirmed that Stig Asmussen and his team at the studio are already working on the next game in the Star Wars Jedi action-adventure series. Leading the development of Respawn's new Star Wars first-person shooter is Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn.

About the third title, focused on strategy, it will not be from Respawn. Its development is carried out by Bit Reactor, but it will be Respawn that supervises its production.

To this list of titles in the EA saga we must also add the game in development by one of the company's great competitors: Ubisoft. Massive, one of the great studios of the French company, the creators of The Division, is also working on a tremendously ambitious Star Wars game.

According to the official announcement, the title from Ubisoft and Massive seeks to create a story-focused open world experience within the George Lucas galaxy that will take advantage of the studio's cutting-edge technology, such as the Snowdrop engine, also used in The Division.

It seems that, after all, Star Wars is going to be a cornerstone of the video game industry, with two of the big companies like EA and Ubisoft working on titles within the Disney saga.
