Elon Musk said Apple refused to buy Tesla years ago

Elon Musk, founder of electric car company Tesla, tweeted on Tuesday that “in the darkest days of the Model 3 program” he would contact Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, to discuss the possibility of a Tesla acquisition “to one-tenth of its current value “. According to Musk, Cook refused even to organize the meeting.

During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1 / 10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting.

Musk wrote the tweet commenting on rumors published Tuesday by Reuters that Apple is planning to produce its own model of electric and self-driving car by 2024, with next-generation batteries. Similar rumors related to Apple have also appeared in recent years, and so far they have never materialized.

When Musk talks about the “darkest days of the Model 3 program” he is probably referring to 2017, when Tesla went into serious crisis due to the production difficulties of his latest model of electric car (the Model 3, in fact) and went very close to failure, as told by Musk himself. Subsequently the company recovered and achieved excellent success: today Tesla is one of the richest car manufacturers in the world and has just entered the S&P 500 list on the New York Stock Exchange, one of the most prestigious.
