Of Eufy, we recently tested the home surveillance camera kit, remaining particularly enthusiastic about the overall quality, but underlining some important shortcomings, such as the lack of support for IFTTT. This time we try, instead, the Eufy baby monitor, which we approached with a lot of curiosity and full of expectations. They did not go disappointed.
The Eufy baby monitor kit is essentially composed, as it naturally should be, of two pieces. One is the monitor, while the second, of course, is the video camera. Let's start by saying that both pieces perfectly respond to the idea of minimal and modern, two characteristics that have now taken over in this technological era, where all the peripherals aim at an aesthetic cleanliness, able to adapt better to modern environments. home.
As already happened with the Eufy Security security cameras, this room for the babi monitor also has modern shapes and designs, almost entirely made in white, except for the big black eye on the front.
Instead of enjoying narrow and square shapes, this room relies on a rounded shape, very particular and pleasing to the eye. In the package there is also a wide-angle lens and a small support to house the camera on the wall, at the corners of the room.
What, on the other hand, appears to be square is the monitor, which is also almost completely white. Very nice to the eye, it turns out to be almost a piece of furniture for the home, almost looking like a smart display. It can be easily placed on a desk, on a sideboard, in any bedside table: beautiful and minimal, but above all functional. Functional due to the large 5-inch screen, capable of receiving and displaying the video stream at 720P resolution.
This resolution, on the 5-inch diagonal, results in a crystal clear, very detailed image, which allows you to have full control of the room in which your little one sleeps.
The first installation and start-up of the kit takes just a few minutes. First of all it is sufficient to connect the camera to the power socket, with the (very long) cables present in the package. Then it will be possible to turn on the monitor and wait for the coupling with the camera
. At this point it will be sufficient to set some details, such as the time and day, to immediately access the video feed. The Italian language is not present, but it does not matter, because the menus are only absolutely clear and intuitive, and the operation of the device is guaranteed by an extreme ease in the management of the UI.
Essentially, it will be sufficient to install the monitor and camera to take advantage of the surveillance kit, but a small control panel on the right of the monitor will give access to additional functions.
First of all, from the display it will be possible to hear in real time all the noises recorded by the camera, therefore any noise coming from the room where the baby sleeps. On the other hand, by pressing the Microphone button on the monitor, it will be possible to make your voice reach the child, thanks to the small speaker that the camera is equipped with. Operation is really simple, and extremely intuitive.
From the monitor, you can, of course, adjust the volume to make sure you hear any noise coming from the baby. In any case, even if you decide to set it to the minimum, you can set the alarms: when the camera detects the baby's crying, it sends an acoustic signal, accompanied by an alarm icon on the screen. This way, the user will know for sure that something is happening. We have tested this alarm system with excellent results: it really takes a start of crying to activate it.
Then, by navigating in the menu, it is possible to set some camera functions, such as the zoom level. This will allow you to perceive greater details, compared to a complete view. Naturally, there is also night vision, to frame the room even in the dark, and to control the baby while he sleeps.
More importantly, the camera included in the kit is motorized. This allows, through the directional arrows installed in the monitor, to rotate the eye of the camera by 360 degrees, with a vertical line movement of 110 degrees. This is great news, in case your child begins to take his first steps, so that he can be constantly framed.
Not that, in reality, there is a need, considering that included in the package is available a wide-angle lens, with a view of 110 degrees, which is able to almost completely frame a normal room of 16-20 square meters. The operating range between camera and monitor, on the other hand, is about 140 meters on paper. During our test we were able to perfectly visualize the video stream by placing the two devices on opposite sides of a house about 110 square meters large.
Among the important details is that relating to temperature. A sensor installed on the camera will allow you to have on the screen, in addition to information on the time, even those relating to the temperature of the room. It may seem like an element to be underestimated, but it is not, because it gives the idea of what the temperature is in the room where the little one sleeps, being able to intervene in case of excessive cold or heat.
Another detail is that relating to autonomy. While the camera needs to be constantly powered, the monitor has a built-in 2900mAh battery, which ensures one day of use. Considering, however, that the baby monitor is often used for a few hours a day, it is likely to be able to use it for at least 3 days, without having to plug it in.
The camera plus monitor kit surprised us positively, but if we were to really find some lack, we could appeal to the fact that it does not integrate with the Eufy Security system. It would have been the best, in fact, to be able to combine the baby monitor room with the home video surveillance system, managing it from the Eufy Secirity app, by connecting to the network. This is not the case.
In reality it is not really possible to consider it a counter, because they are two very distinct and separate products, with completely different purposes. Before opening the package, however, we had hoped for this little miracle. This was not the case, but the quality of the baby monitor kit remains indisputable.
Conclusions
It costs 199 euros, and it is not among the cheapest. Not even the most expensive, though. The quality, as already mentioned, is indisputable: the camera and monitor are very beautiful aesthetically, but also very functional. Motorized camera and large 5-inch display make the system truly optimal for controlling the little one. The presence of a wide-angle lens in the package enriches the value of the system even more. Promoted without reservations, even if it costs much less in the USA.
