Ezviz S2 tries to break away from many of its competitors, presenting a double soul: action cam and dash cam together, to film the most extreme feats, but also for driving safety.
On an aesthetic level, Ezviz S2 looks like a common action cam, with rather elegant shapes and an absolutely clean front. the action buttons are arranged along the frame: the recording or shooting buttons at the top, the power and Settings menu buttons on the side.
On the back, however, a large 2-inch display, which allows you to appreciate what is framed. It is a well-made touch screen, responsive to the user's touches, thanks to which it is possible to navigate the UI in a simple and intuitive way.
Action Cam
The display can be seen well in any light condition, useful for immediately knowing what is in the frame. The fact that it is touchscreen is an added value, because through simple slides it will be possible to recall all the features offered. For example, swiping to the left brings up the shooting modes menu, including video and photo, which in turn allows you to select different functions, such as single shot, burst, timelapse, or even photo + video mode.
With a slide upwards, however, you access a second menu, no less important, where you can select, in addition to the WiFi network for use with the app on a smartphone, even the Action Cam or Dash Cam modes. Let's focus on the first one.
Ezviz S2 is a full-fledged action cam, capable of recording videos up to 1080p at 60 FPS. The camera turns on very quickly, and in a few moments it is ready to shoot. On the quality of the videos we prefer to let the recorded samples speak for themselves, so that each user can really get an idea of the video quality.
It seems to us to provide a good result, also in consideration of the cost and the dual functionality (action + dash). Furthermore, the waterproof case is included in the sales bundle, thanks to which you can also shoot underwater. It is not an element to be underestimated, considering that these accessories usually have a considerable cost, if purchased separately.
Dash Cam
If the use as an action cam does not make Ezviz S2 different from the others on the market, what can make the difference is the dash cam mode. As already mentioned, it is called up through a special pop-up menu from top to bottom. Once the camera is activated, placing it on the dashboard and connecting it to the killer ignition, it will do everything by itself.
First, when you start the engine, it will start a loop recording, while it will stop recording with the engine off. Moreover, using the internal motion sensor, in fact, it will activate in case of emergency. Even when the camera is in standby, i.e. with the screen off, it is able to wake up in the event of a collision and record an emergency video to be provided as evidence of an accident. During our tests the mechanism has always worked, resulting particularly reactive in awakening.
The dash cam not only has a recording function during the march, but also helps the driver thanks to the technology ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which signals the exit of the car from its lane, or even an imminent collision, thanks to the Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS), which warns you when the vehicle ahead is too close. it also has acoustic messages when the active speed limits are exceeded on a particular stretch of road.
Obviously, as well as a waterproof cover to be used in Action Cam mode, the bundle offers a whole series of supports to position the camera on the dashboard of the car; also in this case it is a plus, because these accessories usually have considerable costs, if purchased separately.
Conclusions
Ezviz S2 is certainly a good buy, even more so that these days on Amazon the list price goes from 102 to around 80 euros. At this price you would usually buy only an action cam, but in the case of S2 you will find yourself in your hands, in addition to a good action cam, also a Dash Cam. This double soul is the winning weapon: one more option, which is particularly useful, especially in this period in which we often drive, even for long distances, to reach the location for the holidays.
