First image of the Meta Watch, the smartwatch with which Zuckerberg intends to overshadow the Apple Watch

After confirming the Facebook name change , the next step for Mark Zuckerberg will apparently be to strengthen the company's position in the wearables sector. A few hours after the “birth” of Meta, the first image of the Meta Watch has been leaked, the smart watch that aims to overshadow the Apple Watch. This goal, however, will not be easy at all, since the Apple device has dominated the market for years.

The Meta Watch image, found by Steve Moser (via Bloomberg) on the Facebook app for iOS, shows a watch whose appearance is inspired, to some extent, by the Apple Watch. By the above we mean its square screen with rounded corners and “thin” frames. Other manufacturers, including Huawei and Samsung, have preferred to adopt a more traditional look (circular screen).

However, the Meta Watch stands out from its rivals by incorporating a small camera. This is located at the bottom —or top? – of the screen, precisely in a 'notch' very similar to the one we still find on some smartphones. Undoubtedly, this detail will give much to talk about. Assuming, of course, that we are actually looking at the final design of the wearable.

What we know about the Meta Watch

This is not the first time we have heard of the Facebook clock, now known as Meta Platforms Inc. In the middle of this year, The Verge announced that the company works on a smartwatch with two cameras , one of them to make video calls. The other could be disassembled to take pictures and share them through applications. At the moment the filtered image does not allow us to appreciate the second sensor.

Beyond its cameras, the aforementioned media anticipated that the Meta Watch will have a frame built with stainless steel and will have support for LTE networks. Regarding the software, it will use a modified version of Android and can be integrated with its virtual reality glasses. Yesterday, Facebook said it was developing Project Cambria , a new virtual reality viewer designed to take advantage of the Metaverse. Will it be able to connect to the Meta Watch? We will know in the future.
