Flex 2, Fitbit's trendy bracelet on test

Flex 2, Fitbit's trendy bracelet on test

Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,,In the rich Fitbit catalog, which in the last year has seen a decisive surge in design towards more casual and less fitness-oriented lines, while maintaining the technical characteristics, a model like the Flex 2 could not be missing, whose entry cost. level serves both as a tow for those who already have a Fitbit model but want another to use in the pool, at the sea or in environments at risk of breaking as for those who want to try a smart bracelet, without investing a large amount.

Flex 2 covers both of these needs in a completely transparent way: and even if winter is here and the desire to go to the beach, for many, the need to have a bracelet that is not afraid of sweat, frost, a swim is still strong and the desire to try this bracelet, the cost of which is absolutely for everyone, remains strong.

Already the first model, with the possibility of being able to change the rubber bracelet (while keeping the ogive inside it) has made school in the Fitbit catalog, since the current models of Alta, Charge 2 and Blaze have a similar system: with this model the parent company wanted to dare even more and, while keeping the line quite similar, the design now appears more modern and lighter with colored LEDs and even higher modification possibilities.

Flex 2, bracelets for everyone

The Flex 2 box opens with a content that makes happy both those with a thin wrist and those who, like myself, are decidedly oversized: in fact, both a small size model and a more generous one can be found inside, in both cases the bracelet is a single “string” in silicone that houses an ogive, which is the computing center, and a rear metal hook.

About this: although the imprint of the bracelet has remained the same in the structure, we appreciated the reinforcement of the metal hook, one of the weak points of the first version of the Flex that made it easier to steal with dexterity (said from direct experience) . The bracelet proved impossible to open with a quick maneuver; you need a certain force to open the bracelet

The rubber strap is now thinner and in our case with a raised knurled engraving, but substantially more anonymous than the first version, which is larger and more asymmetrical. The model supplied was in Black, one of the four available (in addition to Magenta, Lavender and Navy Blue), but both single straps (at a cost of 14.99 euros) are available with separate purchase in Yellow, Gray and Pink. as well as a set of straps, for those who love to change color continuously.

Here comes the first novelty: in addition to the rubber bracelets, rigid metal accessories can now also be purchased, capable of accommodating the ogive but raising the class of the Flex 2 to a completely different category. And that's not all, in addition to bracelets, the ogive can now also be worn in a pendant, to hang around the neck, combining it with a dress for which the combination with a rubber bracelet would be inappropriate.

For female customers, this is undoubtedly more than enough reason to upgrade from the first Flex, as well as an interesting purchase reason for those who do not like the overly “geeky” shapes that this range of products generally tends to represent.

A good friend, but discreet

One of the positive aspects of the Flex 2 is that once worn, it is forgotten. Totally.

Those who intend to use it to monitor their steps while keeping an eye on their activity through the App will find a faithful companion in this bracelet: the battery lasts about ten days, you never need to remove it (except for recharging, about an hour) , neither in the shower nor during a sport, nor in some swimming pool, and practically always works.

Communication with the Fitbit App for iPhone or Android takes place in a completely transparent way, without the user having to worry about it as long as they leave it open in the background: it is obviously possible to force synchronization, but it is not strictly necessary, if the data does not appear immediately will arrive shortly thereafter. For those who want, there is also the possibility of synchronizing the bracelet via Mac or PC.

Obviously not everyone uses the bracelet in such a discreet way: for example, at one point we wanted to press the accelerator, so to speak, activating a couple of daily alarms, and call and SMS alerts.

In all these cases the warning comes through a vibration and a sequence of light in the five colored LEDs: it is a pity it is not possible to also have Whatsapp or Telegram, but in Fitbit's intentions this type of accessory activity is intentionally dosed to prevent the bracelet from becoming a nuisance for the user, who for better or worse when he wants to always have the smartphone for all references.

Loyalty and considerations

As for daily use, the tracking of steps is more than good, considering that the lack of a heart rate sensor moves the detection to the casual range and not as accurate as the more capable brothers (such as Charge 2), but we have undoubtedly appreciated the precision in nighttime activity, both for the number of awakenings and for the beginning and end of sleep, an activity that Flex 2 naturally detects automatically.

Flex 2 is also able to detect the beginning and the end of a light physical activity, such as when we go for a run, detecting the effort and recording everything, although it is not suitable for such detailed surveys (for those who have tried Charge 2, reviewed here, the difference is obvious).

The App, for those unfamiliar with it, offers a clean but very versatile and powerful design: in four areas are collected personal performances, scheduled challenges (with goals and medals) and those against your friends, closing with the area which concerns the bracelet sets and the user's physical data (useful for calculating calories).

We underline, as we had done with the Charge, the beauty of the new planned challenges, such as the New York marathon or some Yosemite tracks, a real simulation that users can do by going to the office or school, complete with medals and photos. exclusive commemoratives made by professional photographers.

Finally, wearing a Flex 2 means, like all Fitbit models, entering the huge Fitbit community, a real added value: the circuit in fact in terms of number of users and capacity for involvement is second to none and it is very beautiful. accept and propose challenges to friends and even to people who do not know each other, just to do some tests or to have an extra stimulus (which is, literally, all health).

Fitbit, plus smart che fitness

Flex 2 lends itself to being the smartest and most delicious bracelet of the entire Fitbit line, a product designed both for the youngest and for those who have never tried Fitbit or in general a smart bracelet. And thanks to the new rigid bracelets or the possibility of being worn as a necklace, even to those who do not like to interrupt the measurement for a gala evening or to girls who want a more feminine and classy solution than the common bracelet.

An interesting bracelet that courageously collects the legacy of the first model by introducing important innovations, some optional, while keeping the charm and identity intact, and offering that breath of freshness that every consumer product line always needs.

Flex 2, like all Fitbit products, is distributed in Italy by Attiva and is available in all Apple Premium Reseller stores, but can also be found online.
