Fossil Q Explorist, our review of the smartest Fossil on the market

Home Hi-Tech Android World ,,,,,

One of the dominant brands of the scene at IFA 2017, Fossil is literally invading the smartwatch model market, both with partner brands such as Diesel, Armani or Skagen and through its own brand main, thanks to the new Fossil Q Explorist model.

And, despite the acquisition of Misfit a couple of years ago (which became an integral part of the process as regards hybrid models), for the Q Explorist line it was preferred to opt for a more classic Android Wear, which guarantees compatibility with iOS and Android and a softer market penetration system.

In fact, the direction of the Q Explorist model currently emerges clear: it is a smart watch suitable for a casual audience, even loyal to the brand, which has no sporting needs but who wants an advanced model to keep on the wrist, which communicates with the smartphone but always in a very light perspective.

Q Explorist: 10 0% Fossil

The shape of the Fossil Q Explorist we tested, in the model with metal case and strap, does not look like that of a smartwatch until you notice the display: it will be maybe the general impression, the suggestion or the habit, but seeing it on the wrist an analog dial is expected to appear and instead one appears that looks analog, and then changes into something else.

In fact, the watch has a cheeky look of those who literally don't care about the rules that underlie the definition of a smartwatch model: and we say it in a positive sense, because those who buy a Q Explorist first of all buy a Fossil, which is a smartwatch, ok, but only as a secondary aspect.

It is impossible not to notice the impudence of a valuable model, with avant-garde and prestigious materials, which uses the excuse of the lack of beat sensor for the use of a strap which, unlike all models with a sensor, does not have to st are necessarily adjacent to the wrist, but it can have that saucy and listless air typical of those who have long since stopped having to demonstrate something.

If there is a smartwatch model that, absolutely, can be used as an analogue then it is definitely this Fossil Q Explorist, which fits very well on the wrist, even if it weighs a little and is not afraid to get noticed both for the shape and for the dials, flashy in the right world, and in some cases imitate the most classic analog displays very well.

Fossil Q Explorist, smart casual but complete

Although it is impossible to play sports (due to the strap), the Google Wear 2.0 engine inside does its duty and allows you to calculate daily steps and calories, synchronize contacts and show the ID of a call, as well as the most common interactions regarding Messages, Whatsapp, Telegra me basically all interactions with the smartphone.

As is well known, if you have an Android smartphone the possibilities are greater than for iPhone (you can use the App Store, among all) but this is not a model for which these characteristics are decisive.

Charging, which can be carried out via the appropriate induction adapter via USB-A, is to be done once a day and on this the model could improve: often the watch arrived in the evening, but sometimes it did not, which means that if you want to use it intensively in the office, at school or on the road, it is better to take the cable with you, you don't know never.

Considerations

Fossil Q Explorist is a smartwatch model with Android Wear for those who appreciate the idea of having a smartwatch on their wrist, but do not have the desire or the time to follow the possibilities of a smartwatch in all its rules.

The idea that Fossil gave us is of a gold logic with ability to do, but with a rebellious character: the teenage bad boy who prefers the motorcycle costum to his father's small car, less comfortable but much more fascinating. And if there is no heartbeat sensor, it doesn't matter, it wouldn't have mattered.

If you love technology and all its smart details, this model will leave you perplexed, vice versa, if for you smart is a way to appear, not to be then this model will look very good on your wrist, and the features you will love the most will be those normally ignored by other smart watches.

Finally, the price: 299 Euros for a smartwatch with a metal strap and case is a good proposition, and the Fossil logo offers the merit that surely goes on this model look at it first.

Readers can find Fossil Q Explorist in the main watch shops of the peninsula, but can also be found online at a small discount.

Pro :

  • Excellent presence on the wrist
  • The casual soul appears evident
  • Against:

  • Not suitable for sports
  • Battery could be more generous
  • Price : 299.00 Euro (model with steel strap)
