Starting in 2020, Apple will replace Intel's processors with its own chips inside its Mac computers. The news is not official, but it was released by Bloomberg, usually well informed about Apple's projects. The change is expected to begin with 12-inch MacBook laptops, and then be applied to other computer models. Apple has been using Intel processors for about 13 years, after Steve Jobs decided to move away from PowerPCs built in partnership with IBM. Some Macs are likely to keep Intel's microprocessors for a long time anyway, especially in the case of more powerful models like the Mac Pro. Bloomberg estimates that Apple contributes about 5 percent of Intel's annual revenue. The news, released late on Monday, caused Intel to lose up to 6 percent on the stock market.
