Get ready: DAZN could raise its prices this year

Last December, DAZN announced the purchase of the broadcasting rights for LaLiga for the next five years —starting with the 2022/2023 season—. Among the main attractions of the agreement, the exclusivity of five games per day stands out, which will surely attract more members to the sports platform. However, it is very possible that this new offer in content is accompanied by a price increase in the subscription.

According to sources from El Independiente, DAZN is preparing to raise its prices. This increase, which will be between 30 and 40%, could come into force as of next September. That is, when the new season of LaLiga begins —and many others from different parts of the world—. The aforementioned medium has contacted the platform, which has preferred to avoid the issue for the time being: “News will be communicated in due time.”

With so many competitors in the streaming sector, the platforms are making large financial investments to strengthen their catalog of exclusive content. However, it is also true that this investment, sooner or later, has an impact on the subscriber portfolio. With DAZN it was not going to be different, because after the purchase of the transmission rights of LaLiga was announced, some anticipated a rise in the rates, and apparently it will be so.

However, the irruption of streaming is changing consumption habits, even in football. It will be interesting, then, to see if the public responds favorably to DAZN's expanded content offering. Of course, it cannot be denied that, just in December, the service was the target of criticism.

Why? During the aforementioned month, DAZN announced that it will no longer allow sharing accounts to enjoy content simultaneously on different devices. However, an exception will be made if users are connected to the same home network. The reason for this move, according to DAZN, is because some people were abusing the feature. This situation, coupled with the possible increase in prices, will continue to be a topic of conversation in the coming months.
