The video calls have now become part of our life, both work and private. Google Meet is undoubtedly one of the most used applications and BigG has decided to make some useful improvements to its software to make video calling much more customizable according to your needs.
First of all, a new layout of the call screen is coming that will allow you to view on screen both the content that is being shared , such as presentations or web pages, that the video stream of who is actually speaking in a larger format , with the possibility of viewing all the other participants in the call as well.
Then comes the possibility of hiding your video stream , even when it is active: this will make room for one more video call participant on the screen. Another important novelty is the Data Saver mode to limit the use of internet data, improvements to video quality and artificial lighting through Google AI, the function Autozoom , which will automatically zoom to keep the subject in the center of the screen (only available on Google Workspace ) and finally the possibility to set a video as the background of the call , both on mobile and on the web.
These news will arrive for everyone starting in the next few weeks.
Google has announced that the rollout of the new design of Meet has just begun: starting from Monday 24 May , 1% of “normal” and Workspace users will receive the redesign while, starting from June 1st, the rollout will be extended to more people .
Users will have time until June 10 to return to the previous design : after that date, this operation will no longer be allowed.
Google also explained that there may be some graphical problems and glitches, mainly related to third-party extensions. These are the currently known problems:
- Mirror effect when sharing screen : Google recommends sharing a tab instead of the window or full screen for a smoother experience.
- Flickering issues for Windows and Chrome users : a browser restart should fix everything
- Blue outline even if you are not talking : fix coming in next days
