In addition to committing itself to guaranteeing the privacy and safety of its users, Google has an eye towards children and young people who use the company's services : already with the service Family Link , BigG has provided parents with tools to “control” their children's online life, but now they want to take a step forward.
Many services of the American giant will be updated in the coming months and changes will be made to the Google accounts of minors under 18 , in order to increase privacy. Among the most important upcoming changes are:
- YouTube : for young people from 13 to 17 years old, the default option for uploading videos will be the most private option available and digital wellness features will also be more visible. Additional information on commercial content will be provided.
- Google Search : SafeSearch, which once enabled hides the results for adults and is already enabled by default for all children under 13 who have an account managed through Family Link, in the coming months it will be activated by default for already registered users who are under 18 and for new accounts.
- Location History : It is already disabled by default for all accounts, and people under 13 cannot have the option to activate it, but this limit will soon be extended to children under 18. This means that Location History will remain disabled and cannot be enabled.
Among other new things to come, security measures that prevent sensitive ad categories from being shown to teenagers will be extended, and targeted ads based on age, gender or interests will be blocked for those who are less. aged 18 .
