Google's services were inaccessible to many users in Italy and around the world for about 40 minutes starting just before 1pm on Monday. Many people reported problems using Gmail, Google Drive, YouTube, Google Meet, Google Maps and Google Scholar: Google admitted that there were problems with its platforms, but the malfunctions were solved for most of the users shortly after. 13.30 Italian time. The Google page that reports the status of its many services has recorded malfunctions on all platforms, including Google Play – from which smartphone apps can be downloaded -, Google services to manage online advertising – Adwords and Adsense – and those linked to Google Assistant, such as Nest thermostats. However, there were no problems for the Google search engine.
By 13.52, Google says, the problems were resolved “for the vast majority of affected users.” The reports of malfunctions, the tech site TechCrunch wrote, had come from all over Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Central America and South America.
For now, there are no explanations on the reason for the malfunction, although some users have speculated that the problem was related to user accounts with Google: YouTube, for example, seemed to work correctly if you accessed in “incognito” mode.
