Half-Life 2 is one of the titles that remains in the Olympus of video games because of what it means for millions of players. The game debuted in 2004 on PC and gradually expanded to other platforms, including consoles and Mac OS X (now macOS). However, now the game is preparing its debut on the portable hardware of its “mother” company. We refer, of course, to the Steam Deck .
Believe it or not, Half-Life 2 will receive its biggest update in years to offer compatibility with the Steam Deck . The launch of the laptop is scheduled for December of this year, although some buyers will receive it until 2022. Youtuber Tyler McVicker discovered that the game already has a beta of the future update. For its part, the Steam database also reported the changes during this week.
Of course, McVicker warns that the update is not ready yet, as it has some bugs that Valve is surely working to solve. But beyond offering Steam Deck support, Half-Life 2 will receive recently released controller support . Among them is the DualSense , the excellent controller for the PlayStation 5.
Another novelty has to do with the interface, since it will offer new options for customization . In fact, it will be possible to change the aspect ratio of Half-Life 2 independently of its interface.
Half-Life 2 and other games are being prepared for the Steam Deck
So both Valve and other video game companies are making efforts to get Steam Deck compatibility ready. This week, those led by Gabe Newwll announced the initiative “Steam Deck Verified” , with which they seek to inform the community which games are supported for the laptop. Titles will be labeled as “Verified”, “Playable”, “Not Supported” and “Unknown”.
“You will be able to see the Steam Deck compatibility details for each title that has been reviewed, giving you the information you need to inform your purchasing and gaming decisions,” Valve said. However, if we stick to the recent promises of the company, it is a fact that much of the library will have no problem running on the new hardware. That includes, of course, the highly acclaimed Half-Life 2.
