A Review of Hammerhead for iOS, top headphones specifically designed for the Apple world, starts from the impressions we had at the official launch when something special already seemed to us, but trying them live, as we did for a review that we are about to present to you is quite another thing for several reasons.
Primarily, the fact that it is a Razer product places it in a category apart from moving on to be a particular attention, the one that is due to prominent brands, and it does not matter if Hammerhead for iOS does not have a historical name of audio behind them. It is a sophisticated and uncommon product: in-ear configuration with Lightning connector, therefore compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, dedicated App capable of managing the audio output and modulating it according to user preferences and attention to design and in materials.
Hammerhead for iOS, Razer tradition
Pleasure that emerges in the use of these headphones, as is Razer tradition, already begins in the package: the box opens with the semi-transparent paper sheet that reads “There is no turning back (…)”, indicating that once you have tried a Razer product it is adopted for life, headphones and a comfortable round purse useful for carrying in the bag.
Removed the headphones from the cradle (with some contortion) you immediately notice the particular construction: the two cables that hold the earphones are flat, comfortable to avoid kinks and the acid green color leans towards a pair of headphones that stand out.
Once worn they prove to be comfortable: a small magnet on the back of the earphones allows you to clip them when not worn, so that they can fit comfortably around your neck: the remote offers the same commands as the Apple one with the ability to control playback and volume with single, multiple or prolonged clicks.
Obviously the Lightning connector makes this model of headphones for exclusive use for iOS (because as far as we know there is no connector from Lightning to Jack, but only the other way around) so it is not possible to use it with old iPhone / iPad models or with Android models.
Power and control
Connected to an iPhone, iOS immediately asks for the Razer App to control the earphones (downloadable for free here, without the headphones do not activate).
One vo Once the App is installed, this shows some important but not fundamental functions: in addition to a small internal manual for the most important questions, there is above all an equalizer to customize the audio output according to needs.
We personally tested the headphones on various fields, from the most diverse music starting from “Brass Monkey” by the Beastie Boys to “Carmina Burana: O Fortuna” by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with transitions on “Orinoco Flow” by Enya, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and a tougher “Welcome To The Jungle” by Guns N 'Roses.
In addition to this we have seen some episodes of our favorite series on the iPad, from the beautiful “The Expanse” to the intriguing “Sense8”, up to the very strange “American Gods” by Gaiman, ending with some episodes of “The Big Bang Theory”.
Without forgetting the games, from “Boom Beach” to “Jetpack Joyride” even if, being a wired headset, the pr There is no game lag problem and all sounds arrive correctly in real time.
The response was very good, excellent when used with the “Bass & Treble Boost” option which enhances both bass and higher frequencies, both in music and in movies (in games as well, but we have not tried titles with particularly difficult soundtracks).
It must be said that the other presets such as Movie or Vocal instead they did not provide particularly exciting results and in our case we always kept the “Bass & Treble Boost” set active, both for music and for movies.
More scalpel than hammer
Our review of Hammerhead for iOS can therefore only be positive: to an intriguing and not at all discreet look of the earphones are added the lights placed on the outside of the earphones, which light up green in the dark (light controlled by the App), which is not a Chroma like in mice but with i is approaching.
The shape is unusual (especially for cut cables) but the quality is not questionable: despite a background far from traditional audio brands, Razer has lavished indisputable quality in this model of headphones, which are not offering flawless audio, but also extreme convenience in a profiled solution for iPhone 7 and later but which is also fine in models from iPhone 5 onwards.
You can find Hammerhead for iOS starting from the official Razer website and in large retailers, or even directly on Amazon.it.
Those who do not have an iPhone or an iPad can evaluate the Hammerhead Pro V2 model, very similar but with Jack connector instead of Lightning (therefore also suitable for Mac, PC and Android), or for the Hammerhead BT model (with wireless connection)
