TwelveSouth is one of the well-known companies in the panorama of quality accessories for iPhone, iPad and, in general, for Apple products. This time we got our hands on HiRise 2, the dock on which to charge iOS devices, which marks the second revision in the lineup. Two main features: the new design and compatibility.
HiRise 2 shows itself as an upgrade to the previous series, HiRise Deluxe, with a similar design, but 30 percent smaller than its predecessor. It is certainly a good thing, because it is more discreet, but heavy enough to keep smartphones and tablets firmly on the desk. The weight is almost doubled compared to its first version, and this is undoubtedly a good.
In terms of functionality, HiRise 2 does not bring any particular innovation compared to previous docks. After all, it is a support on which to place smartphones and tablets for recharging. The design, however, has been modified to perfectly match the look of the latest iPhones, which starting from 6 have looks with more rounded corners.
The dock is composed, in addition to the main piece, base plus pedestal for the iPhone, also of a second support, which serves to support the weight of the iPhone or iPad, but which can be mounted at an adjustable distance from the first support. , thus ensuring that the iPhone or iPad can be housed with cases, even particularly thick ones. The mobile support attaches to the dock with an elegant screw system, naturally hidden from view, so as not to affect the minimal appearance of the dock in the least.
Interestingly, inside the package there are Lightning and MicroUSB cables for Android, with their covers to fit in the dock. Too bad there is no USB-C adapter: being a quality media, it was reasonable to expect it to be “optimized” and “ready” for all top of the range, which notoriously use USB-C connectors. Indeed, many of the USB-C cables in our possession are not even compatible with the dock, due to the size of the connector.
The dock is a compatibility champion, also being compatible with the AirPods case, and with the Apple TV Remote Control. Among the compatible devices, the manufacturer also lists the Magic Keyboard and the Magic Trackpad 2, as well as the Apple Pencil (with adapter) and SteelSeries Nimbus controllers.
Overall, the HiRise 2 is a great product. Of course, it certainly costs more than any dock from a few euros, but on the desk it really makes its appearance, and the possibility of using iPhone and iPad with almost all covers, make the product an excellent ally. Furthermore, while charging, iOS devices turn the screen to the user in a perfect way, being able to continue using apps and games, or making FaceTime calls and conversations without the slightest problem.
At the base of the support there is a cover, to be removed to insert the cable, Lightning or MicroUSB, and inside which the charging wire can be hidden.
On an aesthetic level, it is cared for from all points of view, with precious materials cut out in a maniacal way: the appearance of the dock is absolutely appreciable.
HiRise 2 is available at 39.99 dollars on the official website, in different black and white colors, to be adapted to the color of your iPhone or iPad. It is also available on Amazon for 45 euros.
