Brand new phone is an indescribable sensation. But it is clouded by the task of moving all the content of your old smartphone. Deciding what to move and what not, cleaning up after years of installing applications, taking photos and downloading videos … But everything has a solution in this life, and Samsung's response if you are going to change an iPhone one of your phones is called Smart Switch .
With this suggestive name, Samsung has created an application so you can make move from iPhone to Samsung without problems. Contacts, photos, music… You will only need this free application. The process can be done over WiFi or via a USB cable. The third option involves using an intermediary PC.
From iPhone to Samsung in five steps
According to Samsung's instructions, with the help of Smart Switch we can change from iPhone to any Samsung device in five steps. The requirements are affordable. As we said before, you can use WiFi or USB for the transfer. Regarding the software, you will need Android 4.3 or later on your Samsung in order to use Smart Switch.
The easiest way to use Smart Switch is via WiFi. Both devices will have to be connected to the same WiFi network . You will first have to install the application on your new Samsung if it is not already installed. If your Samsung is recent, you may find Smart Switch in Settings> Cloud and accounts> Smart Switch .
Click on Start and follow the instructions. After accepting the usual terms and conditions, we choose the option Wireless and then Receive . Finally, as we are going to transfer content from iPhone to Samsung, we mark the option iOS .
Smart Switch will ask for your iCloud credentials. That is, username and password. This means that you must synchronize your iPhone with iCloud previously in order to upload the most recent version of the content of your Apple smartphone to the cloud. Make sure that you have marked all the options to be synchronized except those that you do not want to transfer to your new phone. Thus, if something unexpected happens, you will have all the content copied to your personal cloud.
Back to your Samsung, in Smart Switch you must log in to iCloud and select the data to copy. Photos, music, messages, contacts, applications, calls, videos, etc. Under each item you will see how much that content occupies in the memory of your phone. We will also see an approximation of the time it will take to make the transfer.
We start the transfer, we wait for it to finish and that's it. When finished, we will have all the iPhone content on your new Samsung. Check that everything is in order and that nothing is missing. If there is something you miss, you can move it by hand .
What do I do with my old iPhone?
When you finish transferring the content from your iPhone to your new Samsung, check that the transfer was done correctly. Once we know that we have everything in the new Samsung , we can now enjoy it and forget about the iPhone.
However, a few last steps should be taken. If you are going to store your iPhone, try to do it with half the battery charge. And if you are going to sell it, give it away or recycle it , you should delete the contents of the iPhone to prevent someone from having access. This time, we won't need to use Smart Switch .
Apple recommends backing up your iPhone. If you've already synced it with iCloud, you can skip this step. Then tap sign out of iCloud, iTunes Store, and App Store . You should also unregister iMessage. It's a recommendation from both Apple and Samsung. You can do it from Settings> Messages by disabling iMessage . It is also possible to do it from the web if you already put the SIM card in your new phone or you don't have physical access to your old iPhone.
The last step is to clean your iPhone of personal content. The fastest way is in Settings> General> Reset> Delete contents and settings . It may ask for your Apple credentials for security. When finished, you will have your iPhone ready to use like the first day.
If you use more Apple devices with your account or Apple ID, it would be helpful to remove that iPhone from the list of trusted devices . From the web, we go to your Apple ID page, we log in and in Devices we remove the iPhone.
Wired USB and / or with PC
Smart Switch is designed to make the change from iPhone to Samsung easy. That is why we have chosen the option via WiFi. But if you don't want to use iCloud, you must go to the USB cable to connect both devices.
Depending on the Samsung model, the cable is included. If not, you will have to find it yourself or get an adapter USB-C to Lightning . They are not very expensive and this way you will ensure that the transfer of content is safer and faster . In addition, the process will go directly through the Smart Switch. And if you have to transfer content from an Android to Samsung , or from Samsung to Samsung, the option of the USB-C cable is the one recommended by Samsung by default, although you can also use WiFi.
Finally, it is possible to backup iPhone to PC via iTunes and USB cable. Then you must install Smart Switch for PC or Mac, connect your new Samsung to PC or Mac via USB and, in Smart Switch, click on Restore . The copy saved on your computer will be copied to the new Samsung.
