Winning team does not change, says an old saying, yet Huawei P8 Lite 2017 has almost nothing of the terminal that precedes it (you can find a complete comparison of features with the current one on this page), and from which it takes its name. If already two years ago P8 had bewitched Android users, P8 Lite 2017 is a candidate for a real encore, having all the credentials to become the reference point in the mid-range category.
What then, to be honest, when a terminal has 3 GB of RAM, a processor that is still performing, in this case the Kirin 655, and it appears aesthetically elegant, it is hard to talk about medium range. Huawei P8 Lite 2017, in fact, has nothing to envy to other higher-end models, starting right from the aesthetics. With its very small dimensions, equal to 147.2 x 72.9 x7.6 mm, and a well distributed weight of 147 grams, the Chinese company's mobile phone probably represents the ideal smartphone concept; offers a 5.2-inch screen large enough to take advantage of the multimedia and advanced functions offered by any Android mobile device, in a manageable body, which favors one-handed use. Speaking of aesthetics, the model under test was particularly elegant due to the color: an intense, glossy black, which gives precisely that “jet black” impression used by Apple in its latest top of the range.
Taking it in hand, however, you realize some small detail that differentiates it from premium products: the display, for example, is not at all oleophobic and the frame is made of plastic (even if it deceives and looks like metal) and the “Fingerprints” and the fingerprints on the rear body are always present. Among the other features that confirm with the facts that the terminal belongs to the middle range, the Wi-Fi which is mono band.
Turning to the functions, the good performance of the display is noted, with Full HD resolution and a high pixel density, equal to 424 ppi. It can be seen well, even in direct sunlight, with the possibility of being able to adjust the color temperature, according to your tastes. It is almost always possible, within a few seconds, to set the whites to your liking, for those who prefer warmer colors, and also for those who like them colder.
In everyday use P8 Lite 2017 it is a fluid, quick, responsive terminal, without ever lag or page refresh. You surf the internet well, as well as optimally manage all the functions of the terminal. It will be thanks to Huawei's proprietary processors, in this case the Kirin 655, but also to the support of 3 GB of RAM. The graphics card, on the other hand, is a Mali T830 MP2, thanks to which the Androiid videogame department can gather an appreciation.
The ROM, in short, is another weak point of the terminal: the 16 GB of integrated internal storage will not allow the user to install many applications and it will be necessary to use cloud services
Reception is average: during our tests we always managed to have coverage, the audio on call is good, no disturbances and no problems in communications. The battery autonomy is also good, from 3000 mAh, which has always led us in the evening without worries even with particularly intense use. The applause goes, as in all the latest Huawei / Honor terminals, to the fingerprint reader, one of the fastest, most precise and responsive of the entire current smartphone category. Located on the rear body, it is a button that cannot be clicked mechanically, but which is easily identifiable and absolutely easy to reach. Just place your finger on it for an almost immediate release.
Multimedia
The rear camera mounts a single 12MP sensor, the front 8MP, Beyond the data on paper, which are of little use, the photos are of good quality for the price range. They manage to capture a lot of details, with faithful colors, and even the shots in low light absolutely defend themselves. Aspect to be emphasized also in light of the fact that the LED flash is probably not the strong point of the device. As for the videos, however, some caveats must be advanced: stabilization is missing, a feature that probably more than the others betrays the terminal, which remains a mid-range. EMUI
The operating system deserves a thorough discussion. Huawei P8 Lite 2017 is based on Android Nougat, customized with EMUI 5.0. In this latest version, the possibility to set the app drawer is present, while, with the screen off, it will be possible to keep pressing the Volume down key, to activate voice recognition and make quick calls.
The navigation bar, which has virtual keys on the screen, is customizable, with the possibility of adding a fourth key, to call up the notification menu. A slide down allows you to call up a Universal Search, which allows you to search for installed apps or perform quick web searches. In short, the EMUI is among the most appreciated Android graphic interfaces, full of themes to customize your device.
Conclusions
Huawei P8 Lite 2017, we are ready to bet, it will replicate the success of the direct predecessor. Aesthetically pleasing, already updated to Nougat and with the really well done EMUI 5.0. Always precise, responsive, in the glossy black color it really makes a good impression, like a premium device. The list price is 229 euros, but on the net it is even less than 199 euros: absolutely a must buy.
Online it is possible to buy Huawei P8 Lite 2017 for less than 200 euros, on Amazon, for example, it is shipped around 200 euros, while in some physical store chains the price is around 220 euros.
