Specifically, it is an ear thermometer that uses infrared technology. It is made of ABS, very robust (without batteries it weighs 57 grams) and, as explained above, it is sold together with a base which protects the probe and allows to place it easily on a table, thus having it at hand, for example during the period of influence. The package also includes a fabric bag to store it during long periods of inactivity. It works with two AAA batteries (supplied) which must be inserted by removing the front door by levering the special groove.
The shape is such as to make it really handy, while for its operation there are two buttons: one, on the front for turning the thermometer on and off, the other, on the opposite side, is dedicated to starting the temperature measurement. Finally, there is a LCD display integrated on the back accompanied by a pleasant green backlighting that shows the measurement performed together with the last 10 kept in memory. In case of temperature between 37.4 ° C and 38 ° C the light becomes orange , while above 38.1 ° C it will be red .
How does it work
Hylogy MD-H5 measures the heat released from the eardrum by inserting the probe into the ear canal. The temperature measurement takes place very quickly (about 2 seconds ), also according to our tests, which included a comparison of the various measurements with those detected by two different thermometers, a classic mercury-based one and a more recent generation one that touches the temple, with a error of ± 0.2 ° C .
It is also immediately switched on, which in 2–3 seconds completes activation of the system and prepares the thermometer for temperature measurement. If you forget to turn it off , no problem: the thermometer will still turn off automatically after 30 seconds.
General instructions for use
To avoid errors in measurements , if you come from a warmer or colder environment it is important to wait 5 minutes to stabilize your body temperature to that of the environment where it occurs the measurement. It is also not recommended to measure it near radiators, fans and air conditioners which could affect the measurements. If five consecutive measurements are taken, it is advisable to wait at least 30 seconds before continuing with further measurements.
Conclusions
Hylogy MD-H5 is as accurate as the old thermometer but has the advantage of being instantaneous in measurements. The only precaution is to keep the probe clean which, in the long run, could require a minimum of maintenance in this sense. The use, also due to the particular shape, is spontaneous and it will be impossible to make a mistake in inserting the probe into the ear cavity, even in the case in which a self-measurement of the temperature is prepared.
