IHealth Lina review, the Bluetooth scale that also calculates the BMI

Home CasaVerdeSmart ,,,,, In the last few days, Lina has arrived in the editorial office, who is not a new collaborator but is iHealth Lina, capable of measuring the weight and BMI of the whole family and synchronizing the data collected via Bluetooth within the app that can be installed on iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones and tablets. It is a constructively robust and aesthetically elegant product, with a minimal design and a very thin profile that allow it to be easily inserted into any environment.

It is easy to use and it is not mandatory to use it together with the smartphone as it has an internal memory capable of collecting all the data and synchronizing them later. From the point of view of the functions, if taken individually one would think that more could have been done, but if combined with the other iHealth products then the situation changes.

Recensione iHealth Lina

How is it made

When it comes to construction and materials, the company has really spared no expense. The surface of the scale is made from a large platform built in a single piece of glass (it measures 31 x 31 centimeters and is 7 millimeters thick), with a very elegant and beautiful opaque white background, both when positioned in the bathroom but even at the foot of the bed, perhaps next to the slippers to be immediately ready for the morning measurement when you wake up.

The bottom is made of high quality satin polycarbonate, with four circular feet (2.1cm in diameter) rather protruding and with a rubber cover that greatly improves the adherence of the scale, especially on smooth surfaces. In the center of the base there is also the cover for the batteries (4 AAA ministyle included in the package).

The display is hidden in the center of the upper part of the glass top: just step on the scale to turn it on and start the weight measurement, which is completed in a matter of seconds. It will then turn off automatically after about 20-30 seconds of inactivity.

First pairing

To pair it with your smartphone you need to install the iHealth MyVitals app (iOS and Android), activate Bluetooth on the device, start the app and turn on the scale by pressing it with your foot in the lower right corner. In a few moments the system identifies the scale and combines it with the app (and with your account, previously installed / created by the application).

How does it work

However, you do not need to use your smartphone to use the scale. In fact, you can simply climb onto the glass top – being careful to place your feet on either side of the scale – to measure your body weight. Without a Bluetooth device nearby, the scale will simply show the weight on the display by storing the measurement in the internal memory, waiting to be synchronized later in the iHealth account as soon as it “sees” one of the previously paired devices during a future switch-on.

If, on the other hand, one of the pre-configured devices is identified within 10 meters of the Bluetooth connection, then the Bluetooth symbol will also be shown on the display together with the weight, signaling the consequent synchronization of the measurement within the app. All this happens in a few seconds and if the app is open in the foreground, the synchronization of the information collected by the scale takes place in real time: in an instant the system stores the measurement in the account and calculates the user's BMI (thanks to the height entered previously), complete with a history of the various measurements and weight and BMI graphs to view the trend over time.

We haven't tried the multi-user mode but from the app it is actually possible to create the profile for multiple people to track the weight of the whole family. The app also allows you to set a weight goal and share all the data collected through a PDF with your personal trainer, with your doctor or with your relatives and friends.

Conclusions

It does not differ much from other hi-tech scales for design and build quality but it is less interesting from the point of view of functions: in fact, in addition to the weight it only calculates the BMI, a little bit especially in the face of the price for which it is sold. So why should you choose this scale rather than another better performing one (capable of measuring, for example, also the percentage of lean mass and fat mass, that of water in the body and bone and muscle mass)? In our opinion, solely for the iHealth ecosystem. Those who have purchased or intend to purchase the company's other products – such as the iHealth Wave fitness tracker, the iHealth Air pulse oximeter or the iHealth View sphygmomanometer, just to name a few – will find more benefits in this scale as the collected data will be synchronized to the within the same application, thus offering a complete picture with all the user's vital parameters measured through the various instruments.
