Iliad's home fiber offer will not come with third-party routers. Customers who sign up for a home subscription with Iliad will receive the new IliadBox , the proprietary device presented by Iliad's CEO, Benedetto Levi , during today's presentation event.
Levi snagged some data on the speeds of fiber-optic home networks in Italy. 1.4 million homes will be able to subscribe to the Iliad offer with the classic speed of 1 Gbit / s in download and 300 Mbit / s in upload. But the real news is that Iliad will bring a 5 Gbit / s download and 700 Mbit / s upload network to over 6 million homes. This is made possible by the 10G-EPON standard. At the moment, however, the cities of Turin, Milan and Bologna are excluded from the games.
All this by connecting to the network with IliadBox . A lot of work has been done on aesthetics, in order to allow users not to necessarily hide the router but to be able to “expose” without major problems. Among the technologies present on board we find the MI-MO function and the security standard ki WPA3 .
On the back of IliadBox there will be the port for the fiber (the one that comes from the optical socket), two 1 Gbit ports, a 2.5 Gbit port, a port for the phone and power supply via USB Type-C. As stated by Levi, the router is designed to last at least 10 years and to consume as little energy as possible.
With iliadbox you can watch movies or TV series, video calls, download files, play online. At the same time. From multiple devices. At full speed. Without interruptions.
There will also be a companion app, IliadBox Connect , which will allow you to easily share the network with guests thanks to the appropriate QRCode, with the possibility of creating a ad-hoc network for guests (without access to the local network) and many other options. For example, you will have the list of connected devices and also the possibility to create profiles for family members . What are profiles used for? Levi gives the example of profiles for children, which turn off Wi-Fi and therefore access to the internet during certain time slots. It is also possible to program the Wi-Fi shutdown during the night, in order to further reduce consumption. Here is a list of features released by Iliad itself through a press release:

- Check the network status and which devices use the most band;
- Share Wi-Fi access by sending a QR-Code via email or SMS in a few seconds;
- Plan Wi-Fi access times for different devices;
- Create profiles for each family member.
There is also the Iliad wifi extender , from € 1.99 per month, which allows you to expand the Wi-Fi signal in areas of the house less reached by the signal. Up to a maximum of 4 Iliad Wi-Fi Extenders can be combined during the registration of the Iliad fiber offer.
