If you have ever had an Apple laptop, especially one of the latest models, you know that the materials are of the highest level but you also know that this chassis can pay duty for prolonged use: scratches, dents and even the loss of screws and some feet in eraser. If you are one of those who have this fear, purchasing a protective shell might be a good idea. Cyberlayman has tested the Incase Hardshell as a high-end, quality and established product on the market.
Incase Case
The choice to buy a protective shell derives, as mentioned, from the sad fate that our previous MacBook Pro had suffered from transport, friction on the desk, manipulation and vibrations (which led to the loss of some screws on the back). We were looking for a hard cover, not very invasive from the point of view of color and at the same time sufficiently protective and to always keep mounted. This meant immediately excluding all the so-called “sleeves”, the envelopes in which the Mac is inserted and removed when needed, but throwing it “naked”. Out of the game, for our needs, the numerous style cases (or allegedly) in leather (like the original Apple case which costs as much as a Windows laptop), in canvas and with flashy designs and designs. On the plate remained Incase's Hardshell Dot, i-Blason Rugged Case and Urban Armor's Plyo. We also would have liked to evaluate Tech21's Pure Clear, but unfortunately it doesn't exist for the 16 ″ MacBook Pro. In the end we chose the Incase Hardshell, in the transparent version (there is also a dark gray version) excluding the I-Blason and the Plyo for the too aggressive look.
Hardshell Case Incase what we think
One month later, Incase's Hardshell is proven to be a high-level product. After the easy installation, we have a Mac completely protected on all sides, a design that is not intrusive but which gives the machine a distinct personality thanks to the dots that characterize the entire surface and no limitation to access to the ports. On the bottom we find the feet in soft non-slip rubber and the necessary ports for the internal ventilation of the Mac. Pleasant remains to the touch and no fingerprints. The thickness is only modestly increased and the weight is not very modest (308 grams on our scale), but it is the price to pay for a plastic that appears solid.
Once installed, the cover stays firmly in place thanks to a series of small tabs that discreetly hook onto the edge of the machine. The non-slip effect of the feet mentioned above is very powerful; almost impossible to move the Mac by dragging it across the table (which is not true for our previous MacBook Pro without a case). The stability is perfect and typing does not have oscillations.
Ultimately a good choice in our opinion. The cost is not modest but it is an acceptable and common price not too different from that of other products such as the aforementioned I-Blason and Plyo.
The Incase Hardshell for the MacBook Pro 16 costs around 41 euros on Amazon. But accessories for other Mac models are also on sale, even in gray color. You can check if it is available in the showcase dedicated to Incase.
