Instagram increases the maximum length of videos and says goodbye to IGTV

Instagram has long ceased to be a social network to share only images. The company behind it, Facebook, started adding features to deal with platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Along these lines, and with the aim of strengthening its video proposal, Instagram announced that will combine IGTV with the feed videos in a new format called “Instagram Video”.

“Instagram Video” will be presented as “an easier way for people to discover new content.” This section will be available in a tab in the profile that will be located next to the photos, Reels, tagging and others. As The Verge collects, along with this Instagram will also expand the maximum duration of the videos that can be seen in the feed to 60 minutes .

“We love that our community of creators has embraced video as a key format for telling their stories, entertaining and connecting with their audiences, and we want to make it even easier to create and discover videos. Video now represents almost half of the time spent on Facebook, “said Alexandru Voica of Facebook.

IGTV does not disappear from Instagram, it transforms

IGTV's standalone app won't go away. Instead it will be renamed to Instagram TV. The company will also add new features to the main app designed to make video editing easier. These include a new clipping tool, filters, people and location tagging and more.

Instagram launched IGTV in June 2018 with the aim of positioning it as a mobile equivalent to YouTube. The feature offered a space to discover and watch longer videos. However, the format never finished curdling.

The changes will not impact the operation of Reels, Instagram's proposal to deal with TikTok. But the company has yet to resolve the issue of income for creators, which its competition has managed to develop successfully.

Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, has indicated that the changes will gradually begin to be applied to the social network's applications on iOS and Android. As their deployment has already started, it is a matter of time until they reach all users.
